Skin stock resources for texturing?

Hey, does anyone know of some good places to get royalty free stock images of skin or human models for skin texturing?

I already know about 3D.sk, but i'm not a fan of the fact that it's subscription based (i'd much rather buy a pack of photos of one model).

I say royalty free as i'm trying to expand into creating textures for Genesis and the like.

Some people on Renderosity had (has) some for sale taken from same 3D.sk place but bundled together "per character". I don't know if any of them are still active though.

There are also Alpha Merchant Resources in this store like this one but it is for V4 and I don't know if you can use it for Genesis only. You can use it for V4 and Genesis because Genesis has V4 mapping.

There used to be one here by "randall lloyd" using model Reby Sky but looks like he has pulled out of Daz as its no longer available, there are pre made texture resources in the store also renderosity have model reference photo images for creating skins with.

sorry not much help but those are all I know about.

    Steve.

Yeah, I am leaning more towards model reference photos instead of pre-created textures, both because I want to learn how to texture for myself but also because I might also try doing some textures for things like Skyrim or The Sims mods (in which case pre-made textures wouldn't be helpful what with the UV map difference).

These packs are some of the BEST I've seen for reference photos. They are expensive per piece, but completely worth it in the fact that most of the specular contamination is gone from the photo before you start. I've bought two thus far, but plan on getting at least a few more.

They do look good, but it's such a shame that they're essentially useless for any anatomically correct characters as they're all wearing underwear.

That's when other references come in. It took me a long time to learn, but skin texturing is a bit more like piecing a puzzle together rather than a straightforward thing. 3D.SK works so well because, partly, they are a good source of texture photos and another because there are so many different "captures" of different angles provided by different people. If one doesn't look good, or in this case, wearing underwear, you search for the nationality type you're looking for (in your example we would obviously limit it to females, though depending on what body part you're looking for it sometimes doesn't matter if male or female) and then match the two skin colors. With the right selection, adjustments, and blending, you can't tell it came from another person and it covers areas which one set does not.

Buscuits has a great freebie MR skin resource: http://www.renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/details.php?item_id=69208 (legal link, as per the Admins)

Then there is the "Make It Easy" resource which I LUUUV! That's on r.com in the marketplace made by Mint3D. I'm pretty sure this one I got into GIMP no problem. It's $17.

    Skin Elements on ShareCG: http://www.sharecg.com/v/34772/View/15/2D-Resources/Texture-Elements-Skin-Resource

I know there's another MR on ShareCG, but I can't find it atm... :(

These may be like what you want. They are from 3d.sk, Andy (at least I think that is his name) just made them available this way as well.

Hang on, I never stated I was looking specifically for female resources. I'm actually looking for both genders.

if you're looking for male textures, you could always use your own skin :) (assuming you have a camera) Just a thought...

I'm not sure i'd feel comfortable doing that. Besides, I don't have a camera good enough to do that.

Lighting is important too, as is getting the right angle. Difficult, if not impossible to do n your own. At very least you'd need someone else holding the camera.

But yeah, regardless, I have no interest on using myself as a model reference. I'm looking for already existing model references of either men or women.

This post is 4 or so years old, but I didn't want to start a new topic on this since there are already some sources listed here. I was wondering if any new skin texture resources have shown up in the past few years? Are there any new sites or does anyone know of any good places to get high res skin photos? Preferably free or at least not that expensive?

    Still using 3d.sk.

Their quality has gone up in the past couple of years.

  • Look for YURdigital, the artist is Greybro, his 3 textures sets are called The Source.
