Weight mapping - triax vs general - is this a bug

I'm just updating and tweaking a pre-triax model into triax - works sort-of oaky and now I'm refining the weight maps. I read in the documentation centre that general weight mapping is like suron's ring - one weight map to rule them all. I started off with triax maps and have decided that is more detail than needed so I did edit/figure/rigging/ convert triaxweight to general weight. All good ....
... but what this does is just add in a general weight map to the existing trix maps. From the docco, I would have thought it was one or the other. So is this a bug? Right now I'm going through and manually removing the triax maps. If it is not a bug, how does the general map interact with the triax maps? I could maybe believe that any given triax map overrules the general map (ie general map used for any of the 7 triax "dimensions" that are not specified by their own map. In which case, maybe the docco needs a little addition.
Cheers, Lx

you can clear either the Triax or the General weight mapping, with the weight mapping tool active right click on your item and in the drop down menu under Weight Conversion. Then you don't have to go bone by bone.
edited to add screen shots & for clarity
Thanks for that zombietaggerung - sure beats bone-by-bone.
General weight mapping also requires a couple tricks on joints like a forearm or thigh, where the twist would have a much longer 'stretch' of affected verts than bending or side-side - namely at least one additional bone for the twists in those segments.
