I know 2017 has not been as brutal as 2016 for celeb losses but we did loose one of my all time favorite singers today in an apparent suicide. Very sad. This guys vocal range and power was legendary, and he was a beautiful songwriter as well
Rest in Peace Chris.

Agreed, amazing talent. I was a rock vocalist for 20 years and hated the whole grunge scene when it happened because it meant an end to the rock scene I knew and loved. Soundgarden was the one band that I truly enjoyed out of that time period, which also made me a big fan of Chris. R.I.P
He will be missed, but I"m sure he's in good company. Ronnie James Dio passed away 7 years ago this week, on May 16th. Cornell was 7 years and a day behind him.
52 is waaaaay to young, but then that's the rockstar way I guess. You never know, which is why you should enjoy the time you have. We'll always have their music though!
@FSMCDesigns, Soundgarden, the band cover bands would avoid because no singer dared to try to approach Chris' range. Saw them live in NYC during Superunknown tour. They were truly "louder than love"
@ tj_1ca9500b that right RJD is 7 years ago this week. I recall a specific subset of idiots making horrible comments about his life and ignoring the fact that Ronnie was one of the most charitable, giving and polite guys in music. Dennis Leary had a joke years ago about loosing Hendrix, Morrison and Joplin but somehow Motley Cruë could walk into a room with a mountain of drugs and come out an hour later yelling "Rock n' Roll!!!", Bowie is gone but Nickleback is still making albums. :-(
@Serum, listening to it now and I'm getting chills. Thanks for the heads up, I didn't know he covered it. One good turn deserves another. Watching the Wheels, John Lennon Acoustic outake:
This is really shocking. Soundgarden are one of my favorite bands. :(
This is, indeed sad. His theme song for the Martin Campbell movie "Casino Royale" is one of my favourites.
Alex.
I found this very enlightening comment posted online about this tragedy.
"Chris battled depression and also drank Ethyl Alcohol (ETOH). Alcohol kills your gut flora that creates your neurotransmitters (serotonin etc) and your immune system. This is why alcoholics are depressed and have poor health. This is also why many anti depressants do not work as they try to trap neurotransmitters in the brain alone. Not very efficient as it ignore the source of the problem in the GI Tract. Chris's death is tragic. Yes, I practice Medicine. I was a fan and a peer of his... Shattered."
So, in summation, people who tend to be depressed should NOT consume mass quantities of liquid depressant (booze)?
What an an enormously gifted individual. When I hear of someone like that ending their own life, I cannot help but think then of all the people I know who struggle through unhappy, unfullfilled lives without looking like a greek god and having the voice of an angel. Then of course the wasted life aspect of it just makes me angry. Imagine how his family and band must be feeling now.
He left a mountain of great work. Mostly, I'm just selfishly sorry there will be no more of it. No Audioslave reunion. No more solo acoustic tours. The guy was incapable of producing a weak song or a bad note. He was really amoung my favorite artsits of all time. So, so very sad.
