How to safely use GenX--Need help

I just reinstalled all of my daz content and daz itself because somehow one of my base figure files got corrupted.  I do not know for sure that it was from using genx, but I'm a little paranoid now about anything that modifies files.  After reinstalling I tried to open a duf containing the figure that provoked the reinstall and got a missing genx messages.  I don't even remember using any of the morphs I made for that figure and now I suspect it might have been genx files that started the mess to begin with.

So, what I need to know is what should I never do with genx?  I want to create morphs but not overwrite any of the other morphs.  Is there a way to make sure this never happens?  I have a lot of key v4 and m4 items that I want to bring up to g2, maybe eventually to g3.  So I hope someone can hold my hand with this and help me to do this without making a mess.

As far as I know, GenX never overwrites the original morphs.  So, I'm not positive that your problem started there.  I would suggest posting a comment about the error message in the GenX commercial thread and you might get an answer to why you would get such an error.  The only reason I can think of for something like this happening is if you accidentally named a morph the same name as the original and, even then, I'm not sure that GenX would overwrite the original.

Thanks.  I figured there was probably a place to ask this but had no idea where to look.  I only found the thread for their newest product and since that is not what I'm using right now I didn't feel it was the right place to ask.

Are you actually still using the original GenX or GenX2?  I haven't used the original in awhile.

I have genx add on for g2 and g3 and genesis generation x2.  I just open the genx tab.  Assume it works with all of it.

Yes, if you are working with Genesis Generation X2 then you should be all set.  That's the current version of the script.  Things apparently don't work well if you have both the older and the newer version installed, but you shouldn't have any problems with just GenX2 installed.  I use it all of the time and, so far, it has never overwritten the base figure.  I'm not sure what the cause of the corruption could be.

Did you happen to check the log to see what issues DS was having with the corrupted figure?

  • If you have GenX 2 then do NOT install any GenX.  Make sure your add-ond are also ALL GenX 2 versions and do not mix those either.  Just clarifying since your post said "...genx add on for g2 and g3 and genesis generation x2."  Are the add-ons GenX or GenX 2?

Uhhhhhhh....  I installed it all because I bought it in order of age.  So I need to delete the other two of them?  Now I'm clarifying.  I have not used it since I reinstalled everything.

You're fine. Those 3 products are Genx2, so install it all. I'd install genesis-generation-x2 first.
