So I haven't been using the software for quite a while, but now I'm back. I notice a lot has changed in Daz 4.9. If there is a similar thead to this please feel free to direct me there. First thing I notice ,, I know the IRay is supposed to be new and better, but I remember having more control over my surfacing. in 4.9 I can't even change the color of something without having to load a texture. I can't play with the surface much at all. I like lowering the transparency when I want to see through something, I cant find that.
The rendering doesn't make much sense either. I remember being able to set the view port, pixel aspect ratio; there used to be all kinds of render settings. Where did it all go?
I can't even find the command to load a backdrop. It used to conveniently be under file/backdrop. It's not there anymore.
If anyone has any input or wants to add, again feel free. I'm sure I'll have more questions.

Render Settings = Render Settings Tab
Transparency = Surfaces > Cutout Opacity
Load Backdrop = Enviroment Tab > Type: Backdrop, click Background combobox > Browse
Change object color in Iray:
1.Create a primitive (for this example) - menu: Create > New Primitive
2. Select it on both Scene Tab and under Surfaces
3. in My DAZ 3D Library browse to Shader Presets > Iray > Daz Uber and apply !DAZ Uber Base. You can now set the color under Surfaces > Base Color
If you can't find DAZ Uber under Shader Presets, you need to install the Default Resources package (free).
In order to see Iray render settings you must have DS set to the Iray Render engine. Also, since most Daz content made prior to DS 4.8 has only 3Delight shaders, you will need to make sure your extra content is installed, and while your item is selected, run the Iray Uber shader on the item (Iray Uber shader is located under Content Libraries/Shader Presets/Iray/Daz Uber. Then the shaders for the item will changed to Iray shaders and you can change what you like in that item's Surface tab.

Since the OP mentioned transparency, for that you will want to look at the Cutout Opacity setting in the Iray Uber surface settings.
