New Gigalien for G3M - Sharpening textures.

Glad that I did not use the final MM catchup to buy the old Gigalien although the extra discount was tempting. So I of course got the new Gigalien for G3 upon release today.
Really like the figure, but some parts of the textures look a little "washed out" to me. Actually not different from the promos but there I thought the promos might just contain some kind of motion blur to improve the look. Any ideas how to sharpen those a bit? Sample attached - brown skin version. I also attached one version I applied a little NGS2 on - again the brown version. Does improve things from my point of view although those extra skin armor plates look a bit like the Gigalien is using some salad as helmet. More strange than creepy ;-)

Not sure what the complaint is, the textures look just like I have shown them. They are not washed out.
If you like them darker that is your perogative, and you edited it to suit what you wanted. So it seems fine to me.
Hey Raw, I did not want to complain, although you're right, the title of the thread indicated otherwise. So I changed it. The textures look exactly like you've showed in the promos - never said anything different. Did not take great notice of the textures as I put the figure in the the cart the moment I saw it in the store - like with most of your figures. I just wonder whether one might be able to sharpen the look of the "armor plates" a little as they do look a little blurry to me. Again, not at all different from the promos but maybe a little too blurry to me. The figure itself is great as usually.
I admit the texture is the reason I haven't bought this set yet. I like most of RawArt's content, but the texture on the skin looks... Mottled, like a mossy rock. repeated in an sort of cloudy pattern.
Part of the issue for me may be that the promo has him standing in front of rocks that look nearly the same color as he is, making him hard to make out.
Anyway, I like the concept and probably will succumb to buying him, however, I do wish the skin was more...Clear and individual not with the repetitive pattern.
Sorry Raw, have to agree with Rod Wise on this....
Not sure if this will help, but sharpness of images has been quite a frequent topic since Iray came into Daz Studio. ( I am assuming your renders have been done in Iray)
In render settings under the filtering tab you will find the Pixel Filter is gaussian and the Pixel Filter Radius is 1.5 by default. I find the gaussian setting to give textures a blur, and I have read others say the same in past related forum posts. So I think you may be experiencing a render issue rather than a texture one.
May I therefore suggest the settings I use which is to change the Pixel Filter from gaussian to mitchell and the Pixel Filter Radius to 0.40
I am not sure how this will work in this particular instance, but it certainly sharpens my character textures. Hope you see some similar results, and this has been helpful.
Interesting, I bought him because of the textures (and the fact that RAW made him of course). I like that he will blend in very well with swamps, or muddy caves or whatever.
I did a super quick render on a lighter background if that helps any. Don't mind the pose, I couldn't stop myself. Also, this is still at 0%, I'm on my laptop and its slowing it down too much to do anything else. (my laptop is 6 years old, so please don't take my render times on this to be indicative of how fast or slow it renders on a normal pc.)
Had to get this immediately, needless to say. :) Would have preferred it with an option to not have the pancake-like sections slapped over the head/shoulders/chest (the contrast looks too jarring), but I like the rest of it. I'll have to see what it looks like with eyes closed, to see if it gives the illusion of a sufficiently Giger-esque blind look.
Hopefully, this might help to spur other content creators to give us some Iray-compatible hive resin environments. :)
EDIT: Ugh, spelling errors!
Oh man, that would be awesome! I tried my hand at kit-bashing one this weekend, but I couldn't come up with anything at all remotely close enough to bother with, and wound up tossing the idea for that render back into the pile. I picked this guy up as soon as I saw him, and I'm already working on a sequence with him in it. Having an actual hive environment to use would make me a happy camper.
There isn't any point adding the tail, for obvious reasons, but the dorsal tubes kind of work. The head crest has the wrong dimensions and doesn't look right, at all.
Slick wetness can be done on Iray, but it takes a great deal of trial and error (and, even then, I haven't been able to get it as natural as I'd like it, when experimenting with it on stand-alone figures).
Xenomorphine thank you for the info. I am learning Daz Studio. On Poser I knew a lot of the in's and out's for material settings. I am still in a lot of the trail error/hitting brick walls stage. I like Studio....but some of the things that seemed easy on Poser don't on Studio.
Wow, I thought those plates were clothing from another figure.
Anyone know if this beastie can wear clothes? Or is there something that stops that from working?
Any anyone play with the morph settings to mix him and other Genesis 3 beasties- like who wants to mix him with exile alien?
Same here, Patrick - and I've been exclusively using DS for a few years now!
I highly recommend the video tutorials Dreamlight has done, which regularly go on sale:
https://www.daz3d.com/dreamlight
They give some excellent insight into how the mechanics of Iray operate with examples.
AVXP, the first morphing combination I thought of was Exile. I wasn't able to justify affording it in the sale (too many other more critical things required for my various projects), but would be very interested to see if anyone else has tried combining them.
You could change the following IRay surface properties to add more of a glossy sheen:
Glossy Layered Weight (increase for more gloss)
Glossy Reflectivity (increase for more)
Glossy Roughness (decrease)
Then add a GeoShell and set its shader to the IRay Water shader. If you want to limit the effect, add a mask to the Cut-Out Opacity.
You can also experiment with changing the Top Coat and Top Coat Thin Wall parameters; using an Index of Refraction between 1.33 (room temp water) and ~1.49 (oil) depending on how much shininess you want.
those extra skin armor plates look a bit like the Gigalien is using some salad as helmet.
Too much. lol.
I know it's a "monster" but do you have any plans for a female version?
And those plates become a bra and panties?
I'm digging it. There are so many G3 monsters coming out- our renders are going to confuse so many people - like "where is this monster from?"
And only@Llynara is going to be able to name all the kit-morphed-pieces.
