DS 4.8 has become incredibly slow

I was down to 12GB on my hard drive, things were still running fine. I moved a bunch of (non-Daz related) stuff to an external drive. Leaving DS alone, and now as soon as I start adding anything to the scene, it takes 3-10 seconds for the cursor to move the camera views, to switch tabs, basically everything is very slow!
And ideas? I have shut down the machine, shut down DAZ, nothing seems to help. As soon as I add anything to the black scene, it slows all movement.
I really don't want to update to 4.9, I have Win 10/64, 12GB RAM, no Nvidia card, and 44GB memory free, so this really shouldn't be happening, as it didn't happen when I only had 12GB free space!

If you have your library on an external hard drive, I'd perhaps re-install Daz Studio. Assuming you have the original 4.8 install files. I'm not sure if people defrag anymore, but that might be an option too.
Is it only DAZ that is effected? Sounds like it from your description. You might have transfered something DAZ otherwise needs, even if it isn't DAZ.
From my non-technical experience the best thing to do is move everything back, or reload/reset your drive to a state prior to the move. If you still have the problem you borked your program, and should reinstall it. Hopefully you still have the installer. Once DAZ is working again, take one thing at a time (like all document files), and see what happens. Keep going until you break it again, and then you'll know what not to take off your drive.
All this is a huge pain, but I just did it with my old-old Mac. Turned out Spotlight (an indexing program) was trying to index my external drive (2TB), so it was eating all the processing memory. It took some hunting, and examining memory usage, but I got it fixed.
It is only DS that is affected. I can use Poser with no issue and it's harder on RAM and the video card that DS is. All the DS files (Library) are still in the same place, I didn't mess with them.
I'll take a look at memory sinks, but, in general when I monitor it isn't saying that it's memory or CPU are full up!
I do have the file, so may end up just reinstalling, but I do hate doing that, as it always messes up my custom content library.
Thanks for the suggestions
