Can someone explain Fibermesh Hair?

Fibermesh Hair, should I use it in Iray? Should I not use it in Iray? Am I already using it and didn't realize it?

    You may be using it already and not know it. There are quite a few items in the store that use fibermesh hair. Works well in Iray. Buzzed hair and Tapered Hair by Hellboy Soto are two that come to mind, but there are others. Neftis hair is mostly fibermesh these days. Also, if you own any of the facial hair products like Whiskers for G3M or Unshaven 2 for G3M, those are fibermesh as well.

    Thanks, I've used the Soto Buzzed hair quite a bit so I guess I'm ok memory-wise :)

    For the most part, fibermesh means it was just modelled more like real hair, rather than the old way of a bunch of flat textured planes stacked up.

    ...not sure if OOT has moved to Fibre Mesh but I did one scene with my Albino KK character who was slightly backlit and the hair (Rochelle Ponytail Hair) appears to refract and scatter the light properly.
