Does Anyone Have Any Experience with Movie Maker

There are some pretty sweet Dreamlight saleas going on now and I've had my eye on Movie Maker for sometime. Would I be correct in presuming one could use Iray on there subject when rendering with this cutout technology? I am still kind of looking at it to make still images with the world sort of pre built in all angles. Am I understanding that the technology works by building a pre-rendered background and somehow cutting out via the use of Alphas the render of your foreground subject?

Does Movie Maker DS 4.6 Edition work with the current verison of Daz Studio?
I have that and it worked as far as I can tell in 4.7 and up. I haven't tried it in DS 4.9 because I don't have everything reinstalled since I switched to dual box again running both Linux and Windows with Linux being my primary OS now. I can try it out in DS 4.9 this weekend if you'd like. I can install it fairly quickly in the Windows partition without any problems and let you know if it works or not.
That would be awesome. Thank you.
I went into Windows tonight and got Movie Maker all installed in DS. Everything seems to be working fine in DS 4.9.166 which is the version I have running. I have a short test animation rendering in 3Delight now. Will post in the morning when it's done if I can figure out uploading it to YouTube. It's been awhile since I uploaded my first test animation there.
Awesome. Thank you!
Yes, it deoes work.
Okay, here is the test clip. There are tons of mistakes, user error and the fact I did these really late at night.
3delight only or is Iray possible?
I've tried Iray a few times and it has crashed Studio to the desktop every time. I haven't spent much time with it though.
Not out of the box, no, and not easily. It would take a lot of work. The 360 image is basically like a skydome. I don't know if using the tricks others have used to be able to render a 3Delight skydome would work. I've never been able to do that successfully. If you can figure out how to bypass the 3Delight skydome then you probably could do it that way to render with the premade sets that are available with for Movie Maker. You can set up your own lights so it wouldn't be that much trouble to swap out all of the the existing lights in a set for photometric lights.
Now, you can use an HDRI for in the Environment after you hide the skydome. I tried it and it works. I hid the 3Delight skydome and the other thing that prevents rendering in Iray. However, you'd have to add ground plane or shadow catcher geared for Iray. Because hiding the stuff that come with Movie Maker also gets rid of the shadow catcher that comes with Movie Maker.
Here is a test frame render made with Movie Maker and and HDRI skydome. It's not great as I only did a the bare minimum iterations to see if it would work and I left the girl with all 3Delight settings.
I grabbed the first large ground environment I had. If I worked at it, it could be pretty decent. Rendering in Iray is also going to be more than twice as long per frame. It might be an interesting experiment to see if something really decent was possible with the existing premades in Iray. I'm not sure I'd get Movie Maker with the idea that you would be rendering solely in Iray with it. I happened to buy it before Iray was even an available option in DS.
I would only get it if you planned on rendering in 3Delight and not counting on being able to get it working in Iray as there is no guarantee that you'll get anything worthwhile out of it with any Iray experiments. You would probably better off just using DS with just the Animate2 and the Keyframes if you plan to render any animations in Iray.
I have no idea if Dreamlight 3D has any plans on updating the plugin again. That would be nice.
