Daz Connect products from backup not showing in new install

SotoSoto Posts: 1,450

Hi!

Yesterday I had to format my Mac, I had a backup of my Documents folder and all DAZ Studio content is showing, except for DAZ Connect files. I tried installing a new item to see if it recognize the path to the rest of files, but it only shows that one product. Is there a way to make my previous DAZ Connect files to show again inthe content tab?

Thank you.

In Content Directory Manager, Daz Connect Data defines the folder for the Daz Connect files.  Make sure that is set to your restored Daz Connect folder.  If it's set properly, I don't know what else the problem could be caused by.

Connect is database driven, you need to update the database.

Thank you both, sadly none of the suggestions worked. I guess I will have to give up on Connect and go back to DIM, this would be the second time I have to redownload all my content for the same reason.

Reinstalling the missing content will work - DS won't download the files, it will just check they match those on the servers and then add them to the database. However, if you have a copy of the old database (Application Support/DAZ 3D/cms/ContentCluster) you should be able to copy thata cross to regain your old listings (though if you do copy it across you will lose any changes you have made on the newly formatted system) - I did this recently after reinstalling Windows 10.

But if I reinstall my previous content, it does just that, install (download) the whole thing again. I have tried from both the Install and Smart Content panels just in case.

Sadly I already lost my old Application Support, I only saved the Documents folder. I went to check for the ContentCluster for future uses and I only have cmscfg.json.

That sounds as if you have changed the location of the working ContentCluster folder (DAZ Studio>Prefernces>CMS Settings).

Thanks, with the new install I forgot the User`s Library is hidden by default, I was looking at the Library at the HD, both contains Application Support.

I guess I`ll have to download everything again, I don`t know why DAZ Studio is not recognizing the cloud files. I`ll give Connect another chance and next time I have to format my OS I`ll try moving the ContentCluster as well. Thanks.

I forgot to mention, and as Richard pointed out, you still have to go though the motions of installing the products with Daz Connect.  It will check your existing Daz Connect folder and if it finds the product, it will check and make sure all of the files are there, and download any that are missing, then update the database.

The weird thing is, it doesn`t find any, it just downloads everything again as if there wasn`t anything in the Connect folder. How would it be if it did find them? Would it still take a while to go from graycale to color icons? If it was relatively quick I`d think it`s just analyzing the installed files, but it does take about the same time as if it was downloading things again.

Are you sure your paths are right?

  • SotoSoto Posts: 1,450

Completely sure, it`s the default path, just as I had it before. I also set it manually in the Content Directory Manager just to be sure, but it`s the same path, and if I install a DAZ Connect item it goes to that same folder, overwriting the one already there from my backup. It`s so weird.

The status bar does show the activity as though it's downloading, but it's real quick if the files are there already.  Try installing with Daz Connect a large (in file size) shader package.  If the files exist in your Daz Connect folder, the file count should flip rather quickly to the next file.

It is as slow as if it was downloading, really slow in some cases, with every product. Only one that got ready almost inmediately was a horror eyes set, which puzzles me, because, it shouldn`t be a huge file, but still with quite some texture maps on it.

So it's the \DAZ 3D\Studio\My Daz Connect Library folder you have selected, not the data folder in that or the cloud folder in the data folder?

It might take a second to "restore", because it validates every file by doing a whole-file checksum on it. You should be able to see in the task manager if it is re-downloading. But as long as your paths are setup correctly it should work great.

Rawb: is there a chance that Connect will be updated in the future such that we don't have to "fake-install" when we migrate our data? I had to migrate to a larger HDD when I filled up my SSD earlier last year, and had to go through the motions of cross-referencing all of my downloaded Connect content... but that'll be even more problematic when I do migrate back to a secondary SSD since I have way more content than before :(

As noted above, my backed-up cms folder allowed my immediate access to the my Connect files - it kept the New grouping and install dates as well as the actual content entries.

Richard, I read that with the assumption that the DAZ Connect directory stayed in the same location (and not a different drive)? Or does it work across different drives as well?

It is in the same location, but the DS database in 4.9 uses relative paths so that shouldn't matter.

Yes, My Daz Connect Library, not the ones inside.

The last time I had to install happened just the same, it didn`t recognized my connect files.

I left DAZ Studio open since some hours ago and went to do something else.

Now, when I install older items, they are ready inmediately, but newer items have to download again. Is this normal? I can only think of DAZ Studio checking in the background for installed Connect content starting from the older stuff. But still it has been open for hours. Shouldn`t it be checking only when installing something (which is not doing with recent items anyway)?

I wuld like to understand why older items are ready and others have to download again. I`m only trying with stuff I already had via Conect before, so there`s no chance I`m downloading things that were not ithe cloud folders already. This is all so strange.

Hmm... I'll have to try this out when I get a new SSD :) Shame about the current SSD prices though...

    That does sound odd, yes.
