Frosty Down

Poor Frosty, or Fred, if you prefer. For months he stood resolutely smiling down upon passersby on the sidewalk below his hilltop perch. Then came the Thaw. And the cold rain. And the very snow upon which he stood melted away. Then came the howling winds and that toppled him onto his back, helpless. Then the return of the cold, freezing him to the ground, where his days passed staring up into the branches of the nearby tree, no one seemingly aware of his plight. A deer passing in the night, oblivious to his predicament, rudely and unceremoniously steps on him as it passes. And so he waits for a return to warmer temperatures, when he can be pried from his frozen bed, to stand once again on his own two feet and smile down on the people passing in the street below. Then he'll get taken apart into pieces, shoved in a cardboard box and stuck in a dark shed for a few months.
