I admit, I do not like this promo character at all. Whenever I see her she detracts from what she is promoting.

I totally agree. Sadly I've not bought anything from that vendor due to just the unsettling eeriness that the promo images/promo character makes me feel. I've tried to get through some of the promo sets to check out the products and just end up closing them out and navigating somewhere else.

That's a shame because if you do sci-fi renders, their product quality is absolutely fantastic. And I really like their pose sets as well because they put a lot of effort into ensuring each pose looks good from every angle. When I first saw their signature character, I thought her appearance was definitely strange, but that was by comparison with all the traditionally beautiful female characters sold here. She's really grown on me and has so much charisma that I now find myself really enjoying their promo renders. It almost feels like she's part of an ongoing adventure!

a video of that model I linked

  • An interesting, if frustrating, adventure is using the internet wayback machine on the old Aerysoul website.  Because of how they were hosted, some of the links / mirrors on the freebies still work.  But it takes a lot of browsing to different archive dates to find everything.  https://web.archive.org/web/20081114094717*/http://www.aerysoul.com/free.html

With a quick look, I was able to find the textures for V4 Alice, though not the shape.  The date I looked at was a dead link, but other dates might have it.

Are you sure those are textures, and not (old) DS settings?  I only ask because I *bought* Alice for V4 over at Renderosity back when they were Aery Soul (December of 2009), and I got both thextures and morphs.

I bought her for the textures, since the aesthetic of her morph isn't my preffered aesthetic.

I don't do a lot of Sci-Fi renders, but AS (in whatever form) has always produced quality clothing, and every purchase has been worth it.

When I first purchased back in the, get this, vicky2 days the name was As Shanim. I also recognize all the other names mentioned.

What's creepy to me is the huge distance between the eyes. But I did see a business reporter with same a time or two on a worldwide business show.

I remember AS Shanim and Silphiel (I think that's how it was spelled) from the forum site they had.

My memory says that they did not include settings for Studio, as they were strictly Poser at the time; the DS materials were third party.

  • I think I saw some mats from a 3rd party, and some shaders.

I forgot to mention this in my earlier post. Their poses are always "right" from any angle. Many other vendors don't always balance their poses properly from all angles. Often from the side or back, it will look like the figure is begriming to fall over, or just look unbalanced. But all of Aeon Soul's poses I've use are always balanced from any angle. I seldom buy poses from other vendors for this reason. It just bothers me when I have to fix the balance of a pose because the creator didn't think someone would use it from another angle (actually, I think DAZ QA should catch this). This can also be a problem from the "preferred" angle as well. Even though the unbalance in the pose isn't obvious, it may be enough that our subconscious notices it, and it will contribute to the feeling of something being off in the image (uncanny valley). With Aeon Soul's poses, I'm confident that they will be balanced from any angle I want!

i like the character a lot, personally...she reminds me of frazetta's take on dejah thoris, back when he was doing covers and illos for burroughs' mars books, with a little metal hurlant vibe thrown in.

i can understand the motivation--i have no shortage of old work that i wish would just disappear from the world--but i really wish aeon soul didn't vanish old products so absolutely.  i picked up a ton of their extinct products back in the day, a couple of alices included, but lost them all when i was switching to my current hard drive.  you know how it is--you know that you have those zip files backed up somewhere, but when you go looking for them...sigh.

    that's life...
