Why did that take so long? A product specifically designed for this has been needed for a long time! With the exception of a few PA's hair which is essential to believeable renders has been slow to evolve. Let's keep it up. Bravo.

...I feel like most good hairs have Wind or Blow morphs already? I was actually really disappointed reading the morph list for the Streaming Hair and decided to pass. The straight-up morph is new but I felt like I could get everything else with a hair I already had and there didn't seem to be any styling morphs.
Seems to me this streaming hair is designed to fulfill a specific need - long hair flying out behind someone who is zooming through the air at decent speed, like say a flying superhero(ine) or motorcycle rider or whatnot. And while a lot of hair props do have wind morphs quite honestly many are quite terrible when dialed up to any significant degree, tending to bend the hair at the shoulder but still clinging to the curve of the skull/neck area, or stretching the hair weirdly and unrealistically. Also in this context style morphs would be pointless.
nelsonsmith, did you watch the video? I have a TON, I mean at least over a 100 different hairs over generations and none of them do what this one does. Yes, many of them, especially the newer ones and ones from particular artists have a ton of morphs but they are all limited in one way or another (not implying that those hairs are not good, they are, and I certainly won't stop using them) but this hair is really amazing.
I can't really agree that style morphs would be useless. If you plan on reusing a character in many renders, like in a comic or whatever, being able to adjust in ways that don't involve high speed streaming would be nice.
I did watch the video, at least the one in the commercial thread and it seemed to focus much more on the cape. Both of the items are definitely on a wishlist... but if the hair had more morphs I'd be buying it to use in a current project.
But I'm glad lots of people disagree! I hope it sells a ton.
Im a little conflicted by this hair. The wind morphs look spectacular. Its long past due that hair can react to wind in this realistic a manner. However, I dont see the typical adjustment morphs that let you raise or lower a shoulder, stuff like that. Which makes me wonder how challenging this hair might be to pose around the body when your not using the supplied poses. Im worried that there could be some pretty substantial clipping. It is being sold at a really good price point... Might just be worth buying to experiment. Anyone have any fun pics to share yet?
Hmmm. There has to be more morphs than listed, otherwise they couldn't achieve the look in that thumbnail where the hair is laying perfectly flat down the back.
I asked for this too - and I thought it could be solved by adding bones to hair, like pieces you can pose. This works like that but mostly, hair blowing to the rear.
I'm glad for anything to be honest. At least, in post, I have something to work with.
Some hair does have bones, and yeah, they're very useful. But because not all hair does, one can get out of the habit of checking....
This particular PA, Smay, is known for high quality work. I also commonly need hair that looks windblown -- often just for a stand-alone render and not part of a set that also requires normal movement -- so this looks good to me. Added to my wishlist. Now all I need is a little money to buy it...
VWD is decent at making any hair look windblown. I ran it on a couple of G3F hairs (attached) for a comic I was making. Longer hair is trickier to get it to fly straight back, but it could be done by turning off gravity.
That said, smay's product would be much faster to use than a simulation.
Streaming Hair loads with the hair hanging straight down. Just now playing with it.
So the hair loads over the shoulder, hanging down. There are no morphs for the tail specifically, you open the hair in the Scene pane, there is a bone for it and you get the same options as for the hair overall. Will be posting a review on my thread (in Art Studio) but may be a few hours, I want to test it before passing judgment. So far, I like it. I'll try to remember to come back here and post one for you.
The hair can go very close down the back, and d-formers are easy to do with this one. One for the tips and one 3/4 of the way down make the hair a bit more curvy. First is the default, then with one D-former.
Nicely done and good to know!
Good info!
Saw "Streaming Hair" and thought WTF? Then I realized it's not like streaming video. ;)
I love this hair even though I wish it had more morphs included. If I'm just doing a front render, it works out real well with how I want a long flat hair to look.
