Lilo Bebe...How do you work with her in Daz?
in The Commons
I've seen these old models many times in the store. A lot of them are really nicely done. But, I can't tell what I need in order to use them. Do they work as is...or is some other morph / pose package required?
I see that the compatible figure is "Millennium Girl," but don't know where that base model is available. Does it even work with DS?

Comments
Millenium Girl is a generation 1 figure, ie the same generation as V1 and M1, and all work just fine in DS (although they were originally created for Poser). DAZ stopped selling the base figures for all the generation 1 base figures some 6 months or so ago (it may have been longer). I am confused why they would stop selling the bases when they are still selling clothes and characters for these older figures.
Note that unlike Generation 3 and 4, there is no Generation X support for these older figures, nor any easier way to convert the textures to work on the newer figures (although there used to be an older version of Texture Converter that translated Gen 1 skins into Gen 3). As such, even if you have the old base figures, there is no way to convert these older characters to work with the Genesis figures.
I actually do have that model; it is originally a poser model, but it does load fine in DS4.9 (on condition it is properly installed)
it is a character model based on the millennium girls ( http://www.daz3d.com/millennium-girls ) and these are the required base models
The materials also load with basic DS settings (in fact, the poser materials are also very basic by todays standard, but that makes them easy to tweak, well, at least for me....)
Glasey, I'm not quite following...what you mean. Are you saying that the Millennium Girls are the base figure that is required to use Lilo Bebe? Is that all, or is there another base model for the Millennium Girls as well (i.e. Millenium Woman...etc)?
Havos, thanks for the heads up about conversion. I was wondering if the mesh could be copied to G2 or G3. If not, she might still be a nice faerie character to have. But, I don't want to spend too much on a figure if it's going to be difficult to use.
Yep, millennium girls is required. that is/are the base/model(s). (There are 2 models in the 'pack' preschool and preteen)
You just need Millenium Girls base to use her if you already have it but the issue will be getting clothes to fit her. There may be a way to create a clone for clothes by sizing a G1 character child morph close to her size but I'm not an expert in these things.
There are (old) freebie clothes available for the MGPT (Millennium Girl Preteen); just a sample can be found through the wiki: https://poserdazfreebies.miraheze.org/wiki/Millennium_Girls/Wardrobe
And with DS' transfer active morph function, combined with the smoothing modifier, those clothes can also be made to fit for the Lilo morph. But as said, the Mill. Girls package is required.
Okay...thanks All! I'll put her in the cart and see how it goes. :)
Well, as I am in the process of test-rendering my skydome with Iray, just made a quick test with Lilo added as well. Lilo's skin is only marginally adjusted for Iray by me (no expert at that...), so it may not look the best, but it may give an impression......
(edit to add, the daz forum apparently adds a large compression on the full size image (not the small thumb showed below), that doesn't help making it look good...)
I got all the base models for Generation 1-4 when they were giving them away for free around 3 years ago, and I picked up Lilo Bebe very cheap (probably less than 1$) during a sale.
Out of curiousity I slapped some NGS Anagenesis shaders on her, Sub-D the figure and rendered her in IRay, and the results are not bad for such an old figure. Not sure how often I would use her, given there are plenty of other similar looking Thorne girls for the later generations, however she is very light weight on VRAM resources, so could be used as a background figure. I do have to mention, that the bending on this figure is dreadful.
the faemates cute add on for the mil2 girls
Well, cool..Both of your renders show that such an old figure can still look good. When I go through the older sale stuff, I'm often impressed with how much detail PAs have put into them. And, many of these older Thorne characters have a lot more of that fae look than later characters. Shame there isn't a simple way to transfer the shape to newer models. Having poor bends on the old ones, does mean usage is limited to simple poses.
I have Akae for V4, one of the few Asian type models that looks like women I've met from Vietnam and Laos. I got her a year ago during one of the V4 sales. She has a great shape and texture, except that the texture is very low resolution by today's standards. She's on my list to transfer via GenX2. But, that won't get me a better skin texture. I'll have to try working with a similar Asian skin in hopes that it still looks good.

Here she is with NGS2 shaders.
My personal opinion would be, unless you have a base...earlier models, clothing, etc that would support 'em, just look at Thorne's catalog for a v4 version of the character (or close). The $1.99 is tempting sure, but add int Mil. Girls pack and time spent beating it into shape for modern use...
Yeah, the bends on Milgirls are awful but the Thorne morphs for earlier generations I think are some of their most adorable morphs. Those characters are best with simple poses and focus on the face. They also look best without too much expression, Thorne nailed the cutest expression possible in the base pretty much,
