how do you do a blurred background in Daz?

I want to put a charracter in the forefront and the things she is standing in front of in the same room as her I want to be blurred. How can I do this? this is for Iray also although I am sure the procedures are the same for any rendering engine but just in case this makes a difference. Thx.

You can do that with camera settings. After you create a camera and position it, turn the "depth of field" on.

Select the camera you are using. Turn on "Depth of Field." Switch to Perspective view and pan around. You should see some kind of lines indicating the line of sight for the camera you have selected, and two wireframe planes, more or less horizontal. Play with focal length, etc until the plane closer to the camera is in front of the character, and the farther plane is only a little ways behind her.

Look through the camera again, do a test render. You should have the character in focus and everything else blurry, ie, a depth of field effect.

You can either do it with depth of field in the camera settings or render the background separately blurring that in Photoshop and rendering your character in front of the blurred backdrop.

Activate Depth of Field in the camera settings associated with your scenes camera (you may need to create a camera if you're only using perspective view). You can then adjust focal point (the sphere) and f-stop (the bracketed area in the view cone)

Everything inside the bracket will be in focus and sharp, the further outside that bracket, the more out of focus it will be.

Experimenting with depth of field can be a lot of fun and it adds a bigger sense of scale (or smaller) to your renders. Keep in mind that DoF can increase render times on older cards. I'm running a 1050ti which is the slowest of the current generation and I see little difference in render time when using DoF, your mileage may vary.

Flipmode's depth of field tutorial is useful at explaining this concept

Tried this and had limited success. In the pics shows the settings I used and the outcome. I want V4 to be clearly visible as normal but have the background come out blurry and as you can see I am doing something wrong as V4 is also blurry. The settings you can see in the first pic. What am I doing wrong please.

Vicky is about a foot in front of the focal point, she needs to be inbetween those two planes.
