Question to Decal Kit

This new Iray Decal Kit looks interesting.

But...

As I see in the promo pictures, using the decals on the face of that guy leaves his clothing free of any dirt and blemishes, not very likely, considering his face is covered with dirt. Is there a way to add these decals in exactly the same place to his clothing, to make it look more organic?

And

Does this kit give us an opportunity to use spots, mould and dirt of our own making, or are we stuck with the provided examples?

Can't answer your first question, but once you know how to use decals, you can use it to add whatever you like, within the limits of the technology. It's like LIE in that aspect, where you can add your own stuff, or use premade stuff.

I agree this looks interesting. I have no experience with decal creation or use however. Can one create a decal to import with this decal kit I wonder? For example text or a logo for placement on a building or a vehicle. I do renders with aircraft and land vehicles. I would be great to be able to quickly and easily add and change logo's, text, insignia etc.

    Thank's for any information.

    Cheer's...

Sure, and decals are very easy to use. The product comes with a very good user guide. check out http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/37479/start

I have bought the decal kit, as the decals are very nice, and the helpers make working with the set much easier.

  • Decals can be applied to anything, though you may need to do a bit of adjusting of placeemnt to get them lined up as you wish. The main issue would eb how big the images are, as that would affect how much of an area could be covered.

Hi! I'll try to keep up with everyone, but if i miss a question, just pop me a PM. @cherpenback Each decal is figure dependent, so it projects on to the figure its parented to. In the render with the guy with mud on his face, i just wanted to show how the decals react to skin. If i wanted to take it a bit further, i'd probably parent dirt decals to his Armour/pants etc. You can use whatever decals you please, you just need a diffuse map and a trans-map for basic decals. I'll try and make a quick tutorial later for this :)

@neimann As above, yes, you can create your own decals quite easily. You just need a diffuse and a trans-map to make it work, but you can use the full shader behaviors aside from displacement. So spec, normal, bump, emission, top-coat etc etc. Again, i'll write up a quick tutorial later so everyone can make their own.

@BeeMKay I don't think you have a question, but thanks for the purchase all the same! :)

Thank you! I really hope you enjoy it.

There is a tutorial thread here if anyone wants to create their own decals. I'll flesh out the tutorial as any suggestions roll in.

Thanks to all of you for answering. Looks like I will definitely have use for decals.
