OT what's in a name Zynk Zydian

I have an original character loosely based on a fantasy stretching back to my teens

(I am 55 so been a long theme in my mind)

I called him Zynk Zydian and I know the origins of the name in that I simply used the words Zinc and Lydian and changed letters as I often do creating characters in my mind.

However after posting a few videos I started getting concerned that by sheer coincidence the last name in particular could actually mean something in another language especially since Google reveals it has been used as a username by some and there is a web company using it.

My usage predates this by 30+ years but no way of proving that.

It's a name not a brand and people can call themselves almost anything but am getting a bit wary about almost everything these days especially since I got a couple of rather venemous comments on both videos that seemed rather over the top.

    I cannot find a translation though and the awful coincidence of it meaning something offensive worries me, there is a DAZ character that means a woman's genitalia in Finnish apparently.

    Being Turkish in itself is not so much a concern as its usage as many words mean different things in other languages, I did create it from zinc as in zinc cream as like the sound, it actually is not really written anyway as the fantasy world would use a different written language just the English text of it needed in my titles and narratives.

    He could just as easily be Zinc Ziddian or countless other combinations which actually bring up more Google results.

    Zydian seems to be in connection with at least one music group, maybe you were victim of a disgruntled music fan who expected heavy metal music rather than 3D?

    As for the offensive names... You know the cartoon show "The Simpsons"? The show is named "Die Simpsons" in German language. Now, they don't want the Simpsons to die, but "die" is simply the female version of "the".

    But in general, names can't be copyrighted. They might be trademarked, like Mercedes, but then there's a bit more involved than just the name. I mean, Daimler can't sue people named Mercedes, even if they have trademarked the name in connection with the car and the nameplate.

    well at least Tycath seems unique

    the only results are people named Cath or Cathy with TY added 

    Its the name of my world and series the Tycathian saga or series 

    Starting with the Tycathian Zynk and going on.

    I can change that bit easily as only in Youtube titles so Zynk at least does not come up in searching.

    It's a cool name, and Bee is right- names in general, just like titles, can't be copyrighted. There are exceptions, and since I'm writing superheroes I have to be careful because Marvel is so zealous about trademarks and copyrights. I chose to go with common names for most of the characters in my series, along with the occasional nickname. 

    Best to avoid product names though. I made the mistake years ago of referring to dry wall as "Spackle", which is actually copyrighted. I was writing a do-it-yourself project article for the web, and was contacted by the company about the trademarked name. It was strange, since the article could have given them good exposure, but nevertheless, I replaced it with a generic name for the product.

    Anyhow, Zynk Zydian is very original and doesn't sound even close to a copyrighted or trademarked name/item. You should be fine using it. That is weird about YouTube, though not surprising. Seems like a lot of young teens with little else to do like to spend their time in comment wars over there.
