Wreckage 4: Oh you beautiful plane!

I want to say that the new Wreckage 4: The Fortress looks amazing and I can't wait to incorporate it into my stories.

I see Wreckage 1 and 2 and now 4.... I wonder what happen to Wreckage 3?

Or is something like Microsoft do... from Windows 8 to Windows 10 without a 9?

That was the one they lost, missing in action

How odd... it looks like Wreckage 2 was released BEFORE Wreckage 1. I suppose that means #3 is next in the series after #4.

What I'm most curious about is this:

    • Daz Studio Iray Material Presets (.DUF)
    • Daz Studio 3Delight Material Presets (.DUF)
    • Daz Studio Shader Presets (.DUF)

Iray... check. 3Delight... check. But what's the difference between a Daz Studio Shader Preset and a 3Delight Material Preset? Aren't they the same thing?

I have 3 questions: I know that it’s called Wreckage 4: The Fortress but as WWII Buff I’m more interested in making scenes with an undamaged plane.

    1. I want to know how good is the undamaged plane or if the detail is just focus at damage parts?

    2. Can we do an Aluminum Skin that most of the later models were?

    3. I’m just wondering what models/variants are included B-17 thru. B-17 G?

    Thanks,

They have something called the 'boneyard' at David-Monthan AFB if anyone wanted to model a catalogue of out of service planes. It's like a junkyard but for planes. There are also interesting cactus and wild animals running about.

You might want to check out Neil Wilson's (nelwil)'s work over at sharecg - he has a few nice WWII aircraft:

@ Nonesuch00, I know of 'The Boneyard' well, if you like and study Military Aircrafts you learn about 'The Boneyard' pretty quick. Just an insteresting sidenote the Second Flyable B-29 Super Fortress (in the world) "Doc" had its 1st flight just this month he was store at 'The Boneyard'.

@ Hacsart, I'll be sure to look into Neil Wilson's work over at sharecg.

  • My own projects are actually focused on the interior of the plane.

The promos of the undamaged version look pretty useable. Would love some confirmation. I really, REALLY, like the idea of including the working version along with the wreck. Much more usable that way (e.g. in a comic book series, etc.).

You might also try helijah at sketchfab, lots of aircraft in .OBJ format. It's where I got this P40

And of course Cybertenko's Old Dakota over at Rendo which also has a wrecked add-on (with a truly humongous tree).

JOdel, did you ever try rendering the Old Dakota under Iray? I have been tempted to pick that one up for a while but it sounds like it may require a lot of material tweaking.

No, haven't attempted anything in Iray yet.

Confirmed. As some of you might be unsure what to expect judging by the product page and price tag (at least I was a bit hesitant, too), here's my quick & dirty first impression: Buy it. Now. wink

Seriously, for all you aviation buffs out there, this is it. The "wreckage" part in the product title is a bit of a misnomer, as this is first and foremost an extremely comprehensive historic aircraft package featuring the iconic B-17E and B-17G variants - they just happen to come with optional battle damage. Call it a "before and after" package if you will. Military green/olive/whateveryoucallit skins with three different nose art and marking options are provided for Iray and 3Delight, plus generic army air force markings without nose art. No plain aluminium though.

Pretty much everything is rigged and movable. Turrets, gear, bay doors, access hatches, Ailerons, Elevators, Rudder, Flaps, throttle levers, and I could go on and on... And yes, that also means it comes with a complete interiour. If you saw the promo page and thought "this is probably too tempting to be true", rest assured it is true. It also seems to render rather smoothly. The only downside is that all this loads as a horribly confusing mess of parented figures and props, although it's arguably the price you pay for wanting it all. cheeky

Thank you DarkMatter, this is the kind of attention to detail we love about a good aircraft set.

    Thanks! I n my cart!!

  • I'm glad everyone is enjoying #4!!

Sorry it too so long to get back. "Life going on"

I tried to put as many key items into this one as I could. Has anyone tried animating the bomb drop yet?
