Epic Wings refuse to pose.

Why won't the pose dials on my Epic Wings work? I've parented, unparented, fitted, unfitted. I can get the very tips of the wings to move with the top few dials-- the Feathers ones. There is no response to the Wings ones. Whyyyy?

  • Do they work if you load them into an empty scene?

Click on the feathers that you want to move and go into the Parameters tab and General>Pose Control.

In the scene tab and select Epic WIngs and then you can go into the Parameters tab and also go into EpicWings>Wing Type>Actor for some global morphs.

  • I have these wings & from my tests the poses work as long as I do not try to fit them to Genesis 3 ever - once I used fit to the poses stop working & even changing fit to none does not restore that ability

I think it will work if you delete the wings then make sure Genesis 3/2 is not selected then load the wings & parent them

  • I just loaded them and they seem to work. AutoFitting them to another figure will however remove any custom bones, but as long as you just parent them they should be fine.

dreamfarmer claims to have parented them, as well, so I didn't mention that. I just provided the location of the morphs. They should be working.

Deleting and reloading revealed tons and tons of bones that had vanished from the previous version. I'm kind of afraid to parent since I started with that (instead of fitting) and had problems. So I'll just place them last.....

    Thank you.

Why does fitting something delete bones?

The process of fitting establishes an equivalency between the bones of the parent figure and those of the fitted object so that it may follow any change in those bones (that is how a shirt's sleeve follows the movement of an arm). Due to the limitations of the automated process that is autofit, extra-bones will only be respected when fitting the object to the figure it was originally designed for, anything else will result in custom bones being reassigned to the bones that most closely correspond to the figure space (such as long hair bones in a V4 hair being reassigned to the back bone of genesis). The transfer utility allows you to circumvent this problem, but is a far more involved process.

Huh. But there IS a way to transfer existing bones? What about stuff like  Sickleyield's Ultra Templates-- they seem to add bones. How is that done? Does it require the autofit process? I've often wondered why there isn't a product that adds bones to hair as the Ultra templates add bones to clothes.

    Funny you should mention Sickleyield:

Unfortunately, due to their unique bone structure, it won't work with G3 figures. Still, and I know this isn't a solution in many cases, using dynamics like the vwd program on Rendo allows you to outright ignore any autofitting woes when it comes to hair and clothing... while introducing all dynamic woes related issues into the equation. Can't win them all.

What sort of problems? If it was "suddenly jumping to a weird location" all that means is that you need to select "Parent In Place" from the Scene tab Options menu.

FWIW, all body add-ons such as wings — not just the Epic Wings — are not really "for" any specific figure, they can be parented to the chest of any figure. As mentioned upthread, fit-to does not work because it was never intended to be used with these add-ons.

I believe there are some geo-graft wings that are for specific base figures, but if you don't fit them they can also be parented to any other figure.
