Large number of files installed but not available/working?

So I bought Daz yesterday, and bought a whole bunch of files to go along with it for the Victoria 4.2 and Michael 4 characters - not realising at the time how old they were - because there seems to be a lot more support for them than for the more recent ones.  Now I'm trying to use them, however, I've encountered a bit of an issue.  Or, more accurately, three issues.

The first issue is that some of the files simply don't do anything when loaded; the Undo menu doesn't even acknowledge that I tried to do anything and still has whatever the previous operation showing as most recent in the Undo option.

The second issue is that some files don't load at all; I get a message telling me "An error occured while reading the file, see the log file for more details."  After a bit of poking around, I managed to find the log file, which had this to say: "2017-02-10 17:40:53.448 Error reading file, see log for more details."  And yes, that was the only message provided for the time at which I'd tried to open the file.  Not exactly helpful.

To add to this issue, a large number of files - from what I can tell from some experimentation, all of them that the automatic installer saved in the 'Runtime' folder - aren't even accessible; I can find them in my computer's hard drive but they don't show up in DAZ Studio.

Obviously this is a rather irritating problem considering how much money I just spent on these files that don't seem to work, so if anyone can explain how to make them work properly that would be appreciated.

You are probably clicking on textures instead of the files that loads the products. All the M4 and V4 era items show up in the Poser Format runtime

A lot of the old Michael 4 and Victoria 4 products in the store haven't been updated with metadata to make the Smart Content work. You might be better off, as a new user, to return those purchases for a refund and start with the more recent Genesis 3 models. There have been tremendous improvements in technology that are represented in the newer products. If you choose to return purchases, you have 30 days from the date of purchase to return them. Just submit a help request to Sales using this link.

All the Genesis base figures come free with Daz Studio so you would only need to buy the particular shape you want.

The general technique for using Daz characters, clothing and materials is this:

    1. Load your character.
    2. Select your character by clicking on the character's name in the Scene pane.
    3. Locate a piece of clothing in the Content Library pane or Smart Content pane. It is critical to distinguish between clothing (Wardrobe) and textures (Materials). You must load the wardrobe item first and then apply a material to it second.
    4. Locate a Material file for the clothing item in the Content Library pane or Smart Content pane. Note, this is NOT at texture file in the Runtime/Textures folder. Those texture files are just JPEG files. You need the Material file that has all the info about what texture files to apply to what surface of the clothing.

I think it would be a good idea for you to run some of the interactive lessons that come with Daz Studio. That will give you a great overview of the process.
