Weird geometrical shadows on skin
Hello,
I noticed that sometimes when I render a figure (in this case Lee7) weird geometrical (triangular) shadows appear on his body, instead of a normal smooth shadow. Can someone help me to correct that?
Rendered in IRay with 3 spotlights (side, back and front). Standard Lee 7 skin material (I just loaded the figure).
Thanks in advance.

First of all, aside from the weird shadows, I have to say you've done a wonderful job with the renders.
As for the weird shadows, I'm afraid I don't have a good answer for you. I'll do some research and see if I can find an answer. In the meantime, I'll hope that someone else who is familiar with this phenomenon will pipe up and respond.
That looks like it could be the Iray Shadow Terminator problem. Sometimes increasing the mesh resolution of the object with the shadows helps. Try increasing the Render SubD Level (in the Parameters pane). But don't go too high; stay at about 3 for a human character like that.
Do a Google search for 'daz iray shadow terminator artifact' and you will probably find several forum threads talking about this issue.
It seems that Render SubD Level might be the cultprit. I redid it with a value of 3 and it rendered much better. It's still visible some small geometry weirdness at the shadow near the abs but I can't raise the SubD Level above 3 without crashing the software.
Thank you for the tips.
I think that looks very nice. Bump maps can also impact the shadow terminator issue. If you want to experiment more, you can fiddle with bump map settings, but honestly, your image looks good as it is. Here's a link to an Nvidia article about it.
