I'm usually not a fan of the more mature-looking characters, but Russle looks GREAT! :D

You're right. ALL of Raiya's characters look great. We need more distinctive men before Genesis 4 comes.
I zeroed in on him immediately ;) I like characters that look different, and he definitely does.

Don't worry, July is half a year away, and even then, the male version probably won't come until November. EVEN THEN, most products afterwards will be "for G4M and G3M" for a while...
Personally, I am a fan of the more mature and/or unusual-looking models, because they usually have more character than the other carbon copies (Ivan 7 is a great example of precisely that). But then, my artistic uses for them are for practical-themed depictions, not pretty-boy attractiveness. :)
I agree, he looks great.
I'm all for older looking gents...while I do think he looks great, I am a bit confuzzeled about the texture around the eyes...is it supposed to represent tiredness? zombieness? Something about it is just off putting (to me) and I wish an option to NOT have those is available.
No, but I noticed the eye lid coloring and wrinkles too. The look of that character around the lower eyelids is why I feel there is always a mismatch on wrinkled skin textures and the mesh geometry underneath the wrinkles and that makes the wrinkled effect look purposeful and exaggerated. I feel the wrinkles would have been better left off the diffuse and modeled as geometry or as normals only but I guess they have tried those things and they don't work. I'm certainly not an expert 3D modeler.
The character looks like he has a permanent squint but then when he is not squinting his eyelids should be baggier and the wrinkles should follow. Maybe he has taught himself to permanently squint to hide baggy lower eyelids.
I like it but he needs wrinkles and sags on the rest if his body . Despite the face he's got a youthful tight bod.
Agree - his face looks very weather worn yet as you say the rest of the body just doesn't match.
Well that is actually pretty common.
You explained it much much better than I did
LMAO Genesis 4 aint coming for another couple years buddy, hold your horses
That is what I thought too from the promo, but I picked him up anyway. Similar problem with FWSA Edgar, I hope Aging Morphs or dial a bit of George's body if ever want a bare chest.
+1
Bring on the more mature, unique, and rough around the edges male characters.
He looks a little like Hugh Laurie. LOL
Laurie
You pinpointed what was bothering me about the promos.
Honestly, it's not that hugely unusual. Or at least, not unreasonable.
Men's Health: Incredibly fit guys over age 50 (I really really would like to have a body like David H's. And I really really don't want to put in the sort of work he has to put in to get it there. Dave S. is pretty close to what Russell is supposed to be, I think, but the shot is a bit distant and needed them to step up an F-stop or two to cut the reflected lighting; even so, it's a reasonably decent view. And yes, the bodybuilders and athletes in the list are fairly unusual.)
The Advocate also does a periodic series of images of Men Over 50; some of the images are probably a bit iffy for this site, so I'm not linking (no lower frontal nudity that I've seen -- the Advocate isn't that sort of site -- but occasional full buttage), but if you go to advocate.com and search for "men over 50", you can find them easily enough.
It would be interesting if his skin were a bit more weathered, yes ... but in these days of awareness about skin cancer risks, it's entirely reasonable for someone that fair not to have a huge amount of exposure, which would reduce those effects. It's not unusual to have a relatively weathered face -- which does get more exposed, after all -- and a less weathered body. Mind, that does somewhat limit his use in going back to earlier times, if you want to show him out working the fields Poldark-style.
In any event, I do like his face a lot, and I'm glad that he comes with both a grizzled and shaven option.
EDIT: You know, looking at some of those images, I wonder if it would be possible to make him look more aged below the neck simply by increasing the bump value? I shall have to investigate ...
He needs some wrinkles to match the face. I don't care how fit you are after certain age, there is going to be lines unless you are fully blessed genetically or have work done or have a good airbrush artist. Parts of his body are like a baby's. His hands are like a teens. He needs some age in places that would be exposed to light. His hands, neck, face, at the very least.. Given his strong crow's feet, his hands in partiuclar would show age .
Not dissing the figure. I like him. Just need details on the rest of the body, not just the head and neck.
You would be suprised; it depends on sun exposure and a few other factors such as how much subcutaneous fat you have. I once had a very quirky photographic experience: a principal invesigator of a lab and MD was giving a class for medical school and developed a bad case of shingles just as he was about to talk about it. He borrowed my camera and took a photo of himself nude showing the distribution of his shingles infection. I then used Photoshop to redact the photo for the class. His face looked older than Russell but his body could have passed for a 35 year old based on wrinkles, sagging, spots, and skin tone. I suspect, like the model for Russell, he took care of himself. Granted the average farmer, truck driver, and construction worker don't thinkl about how little uv protection their clothes provide but Russell is pretty representative of a fairly large number of people. I also remember how people in Australia have the highest level of skin cancer in the world based on the large British genetic component and th bright sun but skin cancer on their buttocks drop to the world mean due to the protection by clothes of that area.
I include my strangely quick render of Russell.
I am sure there are people with weathered faces, and baby fine skin everywhere else. I'm not saying that doesn't happen. Just that it probably isn't typical. Especially the hands. Seeing is believing though.
It is easier for me to believe that a younger merchant resource was used for the bod, and a different merchant resource is used for details of the face.
You'd be surprised at the amount of duplication in male content product there is. Growing up for Genesis 3 males is used more than enough, that some elements are quite recognizeable. It just isn't cost effective to hire a model for the whole body.
I'm not saying that is what was done in this case. Just that it is fairly common thing for PA's to do with skins.
Everyone has different tastes. But when I buy a skin for an older man, I do want the body to reflect lines on the face. There are already plenty of young, hot, wrinkless, guys in the store.
Possibly... Definitely, the scientists and doctors have very young looking hands though since everyone is washing and moisturizing constantly.... I know a few artists and musicians and thaey take good care of their hands too: Here is a picture of Sting (aged 65) and his hands which have the sort of skin damage blond get but don't look particularly aged:
or Patrick Stewart at age 75:
I don't know about that. Those hands have veins, spots and creases though. They aren't teens hands.
Here his is with some aging morphs on the face and neck.

Nicely done! That looks great!
Oh dear. I thought that was Woody Harrelson.
Nobody I know, male or female, has a wrinkled body (well men do have some wrinkling) even past age 50 without sun exposure to those parts of the body or severe muscular or fat atrophy, both which are very uncommon. What they do have sometimes is a slight bit of sagginess in some places but consumer level 3D models that I've seen still can't even handle sagginess on the face that convincingly.
Oh, I know plenty of people with wrinkled body parts usually in jointss or creases in areas, where young folks don't. Hands in particular aren't botox tight and have many grooves and creases, necks start to sag as do breasts, pecs and gens. Just the whole shebang.
I think Russell is great. I did a quick test render to see how he looks and I think he is pretty hot
I wish! But if you've noticed how the Genesis figures been released, they've followed a consistent pattern: each one lasting only two years post launch, then on to the next one almost immediately in July.
Yep, if they keep up with the same release schedule as they did with releasing Victoria 6 and Victoria 7, we should see Victoria 8 near the end of June of this year.
looks better than a simple test render good work
