Preset Cleaner for Daz Studio

I read that this can be used to create partial poses for like arms and legs. Can this be done with all presets, like ones from the store, and does it modify the original file or create new ones? And, well, how do you do that?

This feature and creating separate body and face morphs is pretty compelling to me.

Remember it does not split the actual morphs, or indeed create any new morphs at all, it is about editing a preset that uses the morphs. So if a preset sets both a face and a body morph, you can create a new preset that only does one of these.

I see. That's ok, too, because it would be nice to break some of those morphs that connect to each other off.

I'd like to see how this product works in practice, what the workflow is.

It seems to me that Jaderail, when he was still with us, either started a thread or was actively posting in it, describing how to break up poses into subsets, something that he stated he did routinely. I haven't the foggiest idea of where to find it, given the forum search limitations, but perhaps someone might happen by who is familiar with it and provide a link?

  • You can download the product manual from my website. It contains several step by step examples.

The Preset Cleaner essentially works like a filter. You give it an example preset, and then it will either exclude (remove) or include (remove everything else) the listed properties in other presets. The Preset Cleaner also works as a simple editor, where you can directly edit presets. This is mainly to create the examples.

Ah, I couldn't find a manual on Daz. I may pick this up.

What about light presets? It will be good to clean them up, as well.

There are some presets, like Specular Eyelight in http://www.daz3d.com/render-studio-iray

then, when applied, removes all other lights currently present in the scene - very annoying.

I have tried "Merge to the scene", but it also remove the other lights in the scene, as well.

The only solution, I have found, is to apply Specular Eyelight to empty scene, copy it,

open or create the scene and paste Specular Eyelight to it. Thats way, the other lights in the scene are not affected.

  • Preset Cleaner is limited to pose, shaping, and material presets. Those are defined by lists of properties under "animations" in the DUF file.

Quote from the DS user guide: "When you load a Light(s) Preset it will replace all existing lights in your scene so be careful. If you'd like a Light(s) Preset to add to your scene lights rather than replace them hold down the Ctrl key on the PC or Cmd key on the Mac while loading the preset. This will launch the 'Light Preset Load Options' dialog. In the 'Action' option near the top of this dialog you can choose whether or not to replace all of the lights, only the selected lights, or to simply add the lights from the preset to your scene without replacing any existing lights." (First hit when using DuckDuckGo on "DAZ studio light preset replace".)

This seems to be the official and only way to add lights without replacing the existing lights.

Thanks for the explanation, but I think, I have some light presets and when I double click them, they just add to the scene,

without replacing existing lights in the scene. Just need to investigate them further, and see how they are done.

  • I have some old light sets in DSA format that either add or replace lights. So, it may be a limitation for light presets in DUF format.
