Just removed GDN Luna for Genesis 3 Female from my wishlist, as she is encrypted as well...
If nothing else- it is a great way to see how many would purchase encrypted content if an entire release is made that way. Not so good for vendors who suffer if people refuse, but it's a smart way to test it in marketing. How will they know for sure if they don't test it out?
I often just add products without going into them; I'd got out of that habit, but I will have to change my shopping methods - but spending more time on shopping increases the cost to me; time is more valuable than a dollar or two here or there.
So I can't trust Daz; I'm not saying by this that Daz are untrustworthy - it's a personal thing, and I will change my style of shopping - one method is as shown in the image.
The one thing above all others that is in Daz's favour, is the returns policy, and when there are issues with something, there is a central point of contact.
DRM negates that. If I have to filter all the DRM products out, and remember to check, then that increase in hastle makes other places more appropriate.
I dont understand, how works this encrypted thing? I purchased the two hd black characters alone but they dont seem to install correctly, tried manual installation, its frustrating, I am logged in with daz studio, why still undetected? Where is the problem?
How did you install? If you used the Install pane they will vanish from that once installed - you should then be able to find them under Figures in Smart Content, or in the usual \People\Genesis 3 Female or Male\Characters folders in Daz Studio Formats>Daz Connect in the Content Library pane.
As always, if the content won't work for you, contact Customer Service for a refund. Be sure to state you are returning the products because they are DRM/encrypted. That's information Daz needs to know.
He (she? It?) is so darn cute!!
I checked the reset data option and then all and everything I bought from daz popped in smart content and I just selected the list of +1000 in smart content on the tab available and did right click on install, and that's it. Encrypted installed right and didnt vanish. Everything is going well now but the redownload with daz connect to smart content of all my daz stuff is slow.
Get the Daz Browser Deals add on: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/106296/announcing-daz-deals-browser-add-on/p1
The browser add on will give you a huge warning in big bright red letters that an item is encrypted. Its helped me a couple of times when I didn't notice an item had it.
Like this:
I believe the Encrypted text is from one of Ati's scripts, though they are talking about adding it to the Daz Deal Add on. The script will also show a new "caution" icon for encrypted products on the catalog pages. You can find that script here if you don't want to wait for it to be added to Daz Deals.
Oh yes, that's right. I got it from there. I had forgot about that.
Just install the TamperMonkey browser add on and this if you wish. Not only does it add big red letters to the cart page, but it also adds a nice little yellow logo that will appear next to the Daz logo on these items in store pages.
I copy-pasted the part of ATI's page that lists it:
MARK ENCRYPTED ITEMS:
What it does: Marks encrypted items on the category page, and on the checkout page.
Install: Click here to install
How it works: The category page will show if an item is encrpted:
The cart page will also clearly mark encrypted items:
Tip: This script uses a manually updated list of products. This list may not laways be up-to-date. If you notice products that are not marked, or marked products that are no longer encrypted, please let me know.
Installed the mentioned scripts. That definitely fixed the "accidently buying encrypted" problem. As to the "mystery file size" problem for the encrypted product I will buy on purpose, I still can't figure out why Daz can't just place the file size somewhere accessable to the customer. Someone somewhere has to know where it is.

Thank you Outrider and L'Adair!
About the download sizes; does anyone know if the manual download option for Connect-only stuff on the Product Library page includes this info? I accidentally bought one a couple of weeks ago (and immediately returned it), but I can't remember now if the download file sizes were shown.
Edit: no it doesn't — I remember now, the Product Library only showed the Template download (with file size, as normal) and the usual "Offline Package" download buttons (without, also as normal). It was seeing only the Template that clued me in to the encrypted-ness.
And that little critter is cute enough to do unhealthy things to my blood sugar...
No problem. That script is great. I think if there is a way to show the file size, it would be ATI working up some kind of script. It is rather apparent that Daz is not going to do this themselves. I don't know why. They will list the texture sizes of files in a product, but not the overall size. Very strange.
the funny ironic thing is they know there was a real high demand for the content from that sale or at least from what I've read many times in various threads so this was very cunning tsneaky o try and get more customers to use connect- me I have bought a few things that were connect only so not a big deal for me though it is frustrating when you get some bundles and some content is dim and rest connect and even with some dim that is sometimes split up into connect and you gotta download that way too to use the product sometimes you don't know so those that don't like it can understand their feelings
actually how do that with connect stuff, with dim stuff I returned I had to click the uninstall in dim for the items which they could see and then refund me but how would you uninstall remove conect encrypted stuff - as I've said before I've bought this stuff that was that but if I or for the benfit of others here how would we go about doing this with this content
Thank you for posting this thread, I had missed that they were encrypted. I just submitted a refund request. Sadly, I got Michael 7 Pro Bundle and used my PC coupon in the same order, so I have to return the bundle and may lose the coupon for the month. I am not happy, and was really looking forward to using Raymond and Honey.
To uninstall DAZ Connect installed products, select the product's icon in Smart Content tab, right click and select "Uninstall". The product's files will be deleted from the Daz Connect cloud folder.
Edit: To remove the greyed out (not installed) Product icon from the Smart Content tab, I think you'll have to remove the product icon and corresponding .json file from the Meta folder in the Daz Connect folder. On my system the path is: My Daz Connect Library\data\cloud\meta
Most of the other 3D stores post the size of the files on the page, why can't daz do the same as a convienence to thier customers? Its not like it would take more than a minute or so to add that little bit when they are putting the pages together.
That's what I thought.
In times of Iray and the sometimes really huge files this technology requires, this should go without saying.
Add a follow on post explaining that encrypted needs clearly stating elsewhere; tell them you hope you don't lose the benefit of your voucher considering the inconvenience you have been put through.
... Presuming you feel it is an inconvenience. :)
In the original refund request I explained exactly why I was requesting a refund and also asked them to reinstate my coupon. I sent the request in after hours last night, so they have not seen or had a chance to respond yet. DAZ has been pretty good on responding to problems in the past so I am hopeful it will work out. I would rather have had the products instead of a refund.
I would like to see file sizes too - before buying!
For Encrypted Content: there is a thread here http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/89246/get-your-encrypted-daz-connect-content-here-thread/p35
Subscribe to the thread and if you set your forum profile to emails for new message alerts you will get an email when somebody stumbles over new content.
I am updating the first message lists (alphabetical and by release date) when I or somebody else finds new "connect only" products.
Their customer service is one of the bright spots of Daz, and yeh it is normal for them to sort stuff out.
I just hope Daz realise that customer service is the purview of all, not just the department with the title.
That was my first thought which is why I posted in my original comment 'why with this bundle?' You put ppl of color in a bundle then put it in a format that no one supports. So while I don't support encrypted content, I didn't want to NOT support vendors bringing us much needed diverse characters and content, so I got the bundle. Maybe that's what Daz is counting on. A "how bad do you want it" philosophy.
I haven't noticed if I've bought any DAZ Connect Only products yet. I guess I haven't as I've installed all via DIM and I have over 1700 products.
They won't show up in DIM; personally, if you have issus with DRM products, ask for a refund. I'd certainly want to know if I had though.
I don't really see the problem to be honest. I mean... The first thing I learned when I started using Daz and the Daz Store was that looking out for details was key, and it always has been. The only reason this probably doesn't apply to most of you is because you got used to it by now, but that doesn't mean things actually changed (although Daz has made some improvements to the store interface overtime).
But yeah, referring to items which look cool and then you suddenly learn that it requires another product to be fully useful. Sometimes that's hardly as obvious as you may think. The same applies to some starter bundles; what exactly is included and what does one get with the bundle? Nowadays there's a whole list at the bottom of a product page, but that wasn't always the case.
For me this sits into the same category: you need to check the product page and pay attention to those details.
DAZ originals are buyouts, that means that DAZ3D purchases all rights from the vendor in advance, it becomes property of DAZ3D. This is why the vendor also has no say over whether the DAZ Original is encrypted or not. The only one winning/losing money with a DAZ Original is DAZ itself.
