can someone help me? the hair in my renders takes on a frosty appearance and i dont know why. plz help. if the figure is alone i will render it with the same frosty appearance with a checkerboard background like above. this just started happening and i dont know why
hi. thanks for getting back to me. its iray i think, how do i find that out to make sure?. and its every hair type that i've used. for gm1/2 and gf 1/2. it happens to the whole head of hair.
But you have to admit, your picture looks very like the left part of my attachment, which is not a render.
If you start the DAZ application it is automatically set to the standard iRay render.
Under the "Render" tab -> "Editor" -> "Environment" you see a not that good resolved picture in the parameter "Environment Map". This is the standard HDRI delivered since DAZ 4.8 with iRay.
Further parameters:
"Environment Mode" : "Dome and Scene"
"Dome Mode" : "Infinite Sphere"
On top you see the selected "Engine" : NVIDIA Iray.
With this setup you should get a usable render result after some minutes.
Otherwise I really don't know what you're doing.
Or do you "only" have a 32bit system?
Here you're on the simple 3Delight, but which already should render the hair correctly. At least it did even with my very first start with DAZ years ago.
trust me its a render, but im still a bit of a noob at this point, so please be patient with me, im a computer idiot haha. im going to try what you told me
i NEVER had a problem with this until just a few days ago. also that one postgre error thing keeps showing up. i've uninstalled daz and postgre and its not fixed. that just started happening too.
hi richard. i think you're on to something. i think i was fiddling with the .png or. tiff when i wasnt supposed to. how do i get it back to .jpg? i've tried to but cant for some reason. do i do it in render settings proper?
hi andy. im using the one for daz 4.9 the most basic one. i tried your thing but i cant find=== "Environment Mode" : "Dome and Scene" "Dome Mode" : "Infinite Sphere" im currently experiencing a "postgre error" thing where my smart content is not showing up so i don't know if that's an issue
This? http://www.daz3d.com/wildmane-hairstyle If so it's not even for Genesis for for the fourth generation Daz figures. That will have only 3Delight settings, since it does have DS materials. I do have it so I will try a quick render with the default options.
when i click the genesis figure and it has no hair, it used to appear in my smart content and had no problems fitting to genesis. but the heart of the matter isn't that i think. this frosty hair stuff started happening literally a few days ago. i've never had issues before, in the two years i had daz and have done many renders with no frosty appearance with the hair until recently. remember also that i said it is happening to ALL hair types, not just this one
I'm not seeing the transparency issue you showed in your screenshot, nor the frsoted effect from the render. Assuming that the Render Engine is set to iray (which sounds to be the case from your earlier comments on available settings) click the defaults button at top-right and try rendering again.
This is a crude placement of the Wildmade Hair on Michael 5, just scaling a bit and using a Smoothing Modifier to deal with poke-through, then rendered in Iray using the default settings. It doesn't look anything like your render, though it is showing soem odd coloured patches picked up from the HDRI and soem bright spots from the default gloss settings.
ive used the basic opengl as my engine over the years. i just want basic. and my renders would take a split second. im not too concerned about 3d delight or iray in my renders i just want the basic stuff that i've been using for the past two years
perhaps you should show us your DAZ setting. Really no idea how you try to render.
You should work with the standard "NVIDIA Iray" or "3Delight" engine.
If you start DAZ your render tab will look like my attacfhment. Here you find everything of my description.
Don't understand why after the first hint he didn't switch to the real render engines.
But on other sub-forums there are some different users doing the same and wonder why.
also, why out of the blue did this start happening? i've been doing this for a few years and never once had a problem or found the need to switch to invidia or 3d delight.
as I started round 3 years ago, it wasn't any question not to use the render engine. That time 3Delight (per default).
With DAZ 4.8 the default was Iray. So again: no question what to use.
If you have a look at the screenshot I showed:
Do you see the green "Render" Button?
In the line below that you can select the render engines. So please pick the entry "NVIDIA Iray" as I already stated.
It is possible that now there isn't any environment map selected anymore due to your previous selections. The corresponding HDRI could be found under the DAZ program path and then /shaders/iray/ressources/DTHDR-RuinsB-500.hdr
This should work for the first tries.
As next you can play around with the different "Environment Mode" selections.
the engine im used to working with is the "basic opengl" one without the need to use 3delight or invidia. i HAVE tried rendering with what you showed me and it takes FOREVER to render. i just want it back to the way it was where the render was immediate. like i stated in a previous post i dont care about quality too much. i used the 3delight and the image came out nice with the frosty look on the hair. question: is there a way to render without having to use 3delight or invidia. since i've been using basic opengl i didn't feel the need to use invidia or 3delight.
Comments
What hair are you using?
Are you rendering in Iray, or 3Delight?
Does this happen with all hairs, or just this one?
hi. thanks for getting back to me. its iray i think, how do i find that out to make sure?. and its every hair type that i've used. for gm1/2 and gf 1/2. it happens to the whole head of hair.
Hi Bob,
are you sure showing a render?
This looks like the native screenshot of the workspace.
In my attachment you see: native picture <--> iRay Render
Yours look like the left part.
so what do i do?
yes its a render

i have 64 bit windows 8
i NEVER had a problem with this until just a few days ago. also that one postgre error thing keeps showing up. i've uninstalled daz and postgre and its not fixed. that just started happening too.
also whats with the gray checkerboard background. thats never showed up either. i dont know whats going on
The background will export as transparency if you use .png or .tiff to save, it's showing the areas that are not part of the image.
Whata re your Render Settings, and what hair is that?
hi richard. i think you're on to something. i think i was fiddling with the .png or. tiff when i wasnt supposed to. how do i get it back to .jpg? i've tried to but cant for some reason. do i do it in render settings proper?
What a strange render setting must this be. Never saw this effect.
Didn't you follow my description?

richard and andy its "basic hair" for m5 i think. but all hair types even eyelashes get affected???????????????????
im sorry guys i was wrong its called "wildmane hair" for genesis

I tested & see the op must be using Basic Open GL to render as I can get that wierd effect using that
Usng Iray or 3DL will fix this problem.
Yep!
Don't understand why after the first hint he didn't switch to the real render engines.
But on other sub-forums there are some different users doing the same and wonder why.
andy its because we're used to the old ways i guess. how do i switch to the real render engine? remember, im a bit of a noob.
also, why out of the blue did this start happening? i've been doing this for a few years and never once had a problem or found the need to switch to invidia or 3d delight.
i think i got it fixed now
