Please, a little more warning when products are Connect only ):

TJohnTJohn Posts: 11,339

I bought two items in today's sale that I might not have bought if I had known.sad

To paraphrase Monty Python, the product should bear a large red label, "Connect Only!"

The main problem I have is that I have a limited broadband where I live because that's all that is available: and Connect does not let me know how large the files are. Please give me a way to know the file size when the product is Connect only. This may not be a concern to most, but it is for me.

Thanks.

    Just return it, easy fix.

    Just return it, easy fix.

When I'm already miffed, there is no fix, early or late, no satisfaction in a refund for me personally. And a refund won't fix my real issues with Connect as stated above. I just want what I consider a "fair" warning from Daz. I believe they owe us that.

But thanks for replying. yes smiley

  • Folks have been asking for this for almost a year now, so it's not like they don't already know people want some kind of warning. That they have chosen not to do so tells me they have no intention of giving us that.

Ask for a refund, and voice your thoughts towards customer support, requesting that they forward this to the person in charge of the sale advertisement and you would like a personal answer from him/her (as really, the person in CS can't do much about this).

Time is money. Time I wasted picking through complex sales and trying to get things set up, and then having to return a bunch of stuff and try to figure out some other way... that time costs me.

Thankfully, so far most of the encrypted stuff has been Genesis 3, which I generally don't get. But for people keen on Genesis 3... yeah, that's... angering.

It's hard to believe that a policy that leads to so many CS refunds is a preferred one. frown

Not hard at all. DAZ probably wants users to adopt the encrypted files and connect only. Pretty sure the way things are still is a way for them to monitor usage and such. I tend to think that the majority of users that make the mistake of purchasing connect only files will go ahead and adopt it rather than ask for a return mainly due to lack of knowledge, indifference and just wanting their content.

It's not a "large red label", but the 58% discount seems to be a pretty good warning sign right now.

    When the discount's fifty eight

    Check it for DRM deadweight.

DAZ presumably wants people to accept Connect, and Encrypted DRM content.  Putting that symbol, or sash, or any other easily recognizable mark on such content makes people ask what it is......remember, Connect and Smart Content were designed so that new users wouldn't have to learn as much to start using the software.  New and casual users won't even know that content is encrypted.....they'll just buy it, download it, and use it without realizing it.  Making such products clearly marked would tend to make people wonder what it means, and go looking.....and find out that it's DRM encumbered, and many of them would (remembering other DRM fiascos) choose to avoid it.....thus counteracting DAZ's presumed desire to have it adopted by the most people.

I don't buy or use DRM encumbered products (beyond DVD/Blu-Ray discs, and even then, I try to acquire DRM stripped copies after purchasing the original, under fair-use backup and shifting.)  The main reasons why are in my tagline.  So I avoid Connect and Encrypted-Only content completely.  Well, I'm probably going to HAVE to download at least one product via connect just to test scripts to make sure they function with Connect-based content, but I'm only doing that for development purposes.  But it certainly will NOT be an encrypted product.

Over any anger now. This situation just makes me sad, that this company that I have supported for so many years would care so little about customers' wishes.

I would like to reitterate that my main problem is not encryption but a lack of published file size.

Forum posts will have little effect; cash talks, so refund requests show how you feel.

Yeah, I didn't realize until I had bought the entire Hip Hop Bundle and even a hair and sci fi suit that they were ALL that connect stuff.  Why did they do that with this bundle?  Not cool Daz.  Not cool at all.  I really like the stuff, so doubt I'll return it, but it really irritates me to have to be careful shopping so I don't get duped.

I basically only bought that heart breaker hair to try it out because I'm not sure how it's going to look and perform in renders since the strands are thick and clumpy.  Also bought the Astra outfit to check it out. Am rendering that now to see how it looks.

I understand the concern, and have complained about it myself, but the offline installer packages from the Product Library will show their sizes in the download progress info, so you can start and then cancel if it's too big.

To lighten the mood of this thread a bit, here's a little fennec fox.

That's pretty much what you end up looking like after the concentration of having to check every item in a sale isn't Encrypted DAZ Connect only. ;-)

... There IS a warning that it's Connect only. Right there on the product's page. "Install Types", right under the list of what program it's for and what figures, and so on. Right near the top of the page.

I'm pretty sure alot of people don't really look at the product pages. They just look at the thumbnail and jab the add to cart button.frown

It's also a problem with bundles, since people then have to check each sub item.

  • Almost missed them being encrypted. Would have bought almost everything but ended up buying nothing due to the encrypted crapola

Very sneaky. I hope they do not interpret this as proof that people do not buy black characters.

I pointed it out this morning in my art studio thread, as I almost got caught up in it and thought it prudent to enlighten my thread visitors, and the folks on the daily sale thread likewise spotted it and discussed it. Not everyone surfs all around the forums though, or has the time, and bottom line- shouldn't have to. And I DO go to the product page, but it's not a habit to look at install type. Putting it in red would be an easy solution (or pink, or purple, pick a color!) but they do not want to warn people off, they want us to use it.

I didn't buy a thing. Took Raymond out of my cart. Won't showcase any of those products in my thread anytime soon, because I ONLY had the encrypted choice. They had no DIM products for today- really? To go from "hardly none" to "ALL" felt like it was shoving it down my throat, and I didn't like that. I'm not saying they did that, I'm saying that's what it felt like, and how I feel is how I feel.

And I have encrypted content, because I had a CHOICE that day to buy it, and other non-encrypted content. This ALL or nothing- they got nothing in sales from me today. Marketing screwed up in my opinion. It's just plain overload for today.

Ok, just fell into the trap as well. Seems I have to install 4.9 on my laptop in order to use the content. This encryption thing is annoying and quite useless, as there is a way around it, which i won't tell. So this means some extra work for regular customers to get it rendered in Carrara. Hopefully this will get changed in future.

Well, I use 4.8 at the moment, so the encrypted stuff sits on my harddisk and is quite useless for the moment. As I render in another application, this gets very annoying, as I need to do some extra work and I wonder, if one day this content can only be used in Daz Studio, which is quite useless for me then. The only way is to make an unencrypted version out of it, which is very time consuming.

I think the same way. I was always a good DAZ customer, but the encrypted files are not acceptable for me.
