I don't see what all the arguing is about...anime is going to be something different for each person, and each country. Anime started overseas, that is the beginning, but it has grown since then into so many styles. So if you are going to ask what is true anime, my questions are going to be according to what country, what time frame and what artist, because that is going to decide what "true" anime is. You even ask the Japanese this question and considering how may different anime's are out there now, you are going to get more then one answer.
Check this video, it's one person's idea of the top 10 Samurai anime's....every one of them comes from Japan, all have the characters designed differently, the art in which they are made is different and all of them are anime (please note not all have the pointy chin and nonexistent nose).

I have been watching a lot of anime for the past 3 years, I do not consider myself a connoisseur by any means. I have my favorites based on art style and storyline, also whether or not the series is complete since I hate waiting for episodes to come out and the characters are not looking like they are 12 even for an adult (hate that) ... Hakuouki, Death Note, Ghost In The Shell (the movies only), Cowboy Bebop (they need to make more), and numerous others.
I would love it if more characters, hair and clothing were made, preferably for Gen4 and Genesis1 since I don't use G2. I was so happy when the Sun Hair and the Darc character were given for Christmas freebies.
If this wasn't a thread about anime 3d figures, I'd say that wasn't one...that it was hand drawn. It's got something that most rendered 'anime' does not...not quite sure what it is, but it does.
Thanks! That's high praise indeed.
Also...
WOOP! WOOP!
[EDIT: Never mind... animated gifs turn into a real mess when posted to the forum]
You can actually morph your way around and make your original anime morph.
Best response I've seen. Anime styles have changed over the decades, but when someone says a "real anime" character, common sense should kick in and know they are talking about a style of anime not being represented. It wasn't worded in the best way possible, but if you've reasonably acquainted with anime styles, it's not difficult to glean what they meant.
It's just like most american attempts to duplicate manga don't really look like authentic Japanese manga, or even dōjinshi; it's close, but something just doesn't look quite right.
As I mentioned before the Kioki and Aiko 3 morph combo can make some excellent anime morph. Here Kioki A3.
Features include anime ear pull which is an anime feature, big circular eyes and triangular chin. The render was made with Carrara with
Yatoon latest plugin that offers shadow reference shaders (lines shadows).
So to answer that question "Is there any artist working on a real anime figure?" I feel the anime figure is out there already, you just have to work on it's morphs to your likings.
Another answer is, there are "anime figures" in the store, but whether or not you can achieve the look you want with them is the real question.
Anime for the most part is a 2D medium (at least if you're talking about the 70's up until somewhere around the late 90's). Even when you looked at the early attempts of the Japanese at moving to 3D, a lot of people complained that it "didn't look like anime, but an extended cut scene from a game". 2D and 3D are separate monsters. To get a truly old fashioned anime look, odds are your best bet are to simply get out the pencil and pens and practice drawing. It may certainly be the quicker option.
If you're wanting that Final Fantasy look; however, Daz3d works just fine.
Yes I started feeling the same way lately, anime does look better in celshade is why lately I am practicing on 2D view celshade.
There's a large amount of CG anime being created in Japan now that a lot of people don't even know is CGI... Knights of Sidonia is perhaps the best example, though there are many others. Ironically, the thing that generally makes CG look more like cel animated anime to many people is to intentionally cripple and put limitations on it: cut the number of frames to 1/3, intentionally not use physics or real lens characteristics so it has a less smooth, more 2D look. The biggest thing, though, is that the majority of anime character design is full of cheats... noses that disappear, mouths that open and close without moving the chin, eyes that, if they were in a real head, wouln't actually fit inside the skull of the character as drawn, characters whose front and side views don't even match... and many of the other stylistic turns like hair that moves in a five frame repeat cycle and a general disrgard for the rules of perspective except when dramatically convenient. The lack of three dimensionality and fluidity in a 2D handdrawn image hides these quirks, but trying to realize it in a full three dimensions means that some concessions have to be made to get as to the overall idea as possible. It's not just CG that has a problem with this... there are some anime charcters for whom you'll never be able to find a truly accurate 3D figure for the same reasons.... one of the main reasons that anime characters wear the same outfit all the time is that the ahir and costume are often the only thing that makes the toy tie-ins recognizable. If you want to do animation that's completely faithful to character designs as extreme as, say, early Haruhiko Mikimoto (Macross/Robotech), Kenichi Sonoda (Bubblegum Crisis), Rumiko Takahashi (Ranma 1/2, Urusei Yatsura, InuYasha) or many others, CG really isn't the right option. Invest in a Mojo program instead.
...hmm, I turned Teen Julie 5 into Merida from Brave and another community member (sadly, now gone) created a very convincing Belle from Beauty and the Beast using Genesis.
Going even more extreme, I turned Genesis into a bull-like minotaur for a contest... as in, more bull than minotaur... using only the base Creature Creator, scaling, and the horns and tail from PiSong's bull. No custom morphs.
If ANYONE here knows about the wonders and versatility of extreme morph creation for G2-3 it is this man!
Well looking at this nekro-thread...did SY's product ever come out?
There is a "anime/Manga" head geograft over at ...the other store...made by..some vendros from arond here, iirc. I've seen it looks pretty good, but I remember something about i's eyes bugging all out when posed...
Several products like that abound.
If you're referring to their Anime Character Builder, it did. And it apparently didn't do so hot, so a G3M version won't ever happen.
I wonder if it can be given new life now that Girl 7, Aiko 7, and Star 2.0 are out. Seems like if you mixed it with one of those, you might get some desirable results.
I bougt the anime character builder when it came out and I don't even do anime renders. The options it gives you though are amazing. Different morphs, skins, eyes etc. It is well worth the investment just for the options. Would buy a male version instantly. Oh well. I have animated shapes for G2 I transferred with Gen X. It will have to do for now.
here's the default "anime style" figure from Manuel Bastioni Lab (blender addon) imported into Daz Studio -maybe an option -or not
You would have to output all the expression and eye morphs from blender separately though.
Actually it did come out as the link you provided is the actual genesis 3 version!
My mistake, as you meant the male version!
AmyAimei did some awesome free geografts with permission for Deco and Kururu for the Genesis line. Even so, I find just parenting an anime stylized style head seems to work best, so I could use it on different bodies. It looks fine for stylized versions, imo. Ken1171 made a nice anime head you can find online, as well, just recently.
If your looking for a Finaly Fantasy-ish more realistic anime style, Manihoni did the best with MH Anny, imo...for V4 a while back. Still a "wow!" character, I think!
Hi 3dOutlaw
Don't you & MayaX have a character at rendo called Anime Doll for Genesis 2 Female , I have had the set wish listed for sometime but it never goes on sale, the only reason I wish listed it was because it looks like it has a lot of options to create anime character with it. so I was surprised to see it was not mentioned in this thread. Are you guys ever going to offer a sale on Anime Doll for Genesis 2 Female?
Yea, I am a bit partial to that one...
Sale? Sure, PM me and give me an idea of what your thinking, and I'll get it set up one way or another!
I've created an imroved chibi figure that has different style body morphs (Superdeformed, Imp, and Shoujo, Shounen).
It uses 2D faces but also has geograft facial anatomy as well for those who don't want to draw facial textures.
https://www.sharecg.com/v/84173/view/21/DAZ-Studio/Chibi-Figure-Lolo-Hai
I've had it for a while now, and it's a nice character. However, due to the fact that the head is a separate figure with a limited number of expressions, as well as the fact that there's no matching male counterpart, I've ended up using it a lot less than I'd expected.
There are Male Morph(s) freebies available on my site, noted in the freebie forum here, I believe. It will "fit" to G2M (or parent with the no-neck morph that is also on my site) ! (includes 7 addt'l MALE morphs + tutorial)
Yea I did read the comments on the product page about the bugs and lack of face morphs and no teeeth etc . I was really looking this set for the hair and skin textures. actual more than the head with g2f you can dial a pretty decnet anime head.. I also have the counter part the anime doll kit wish lissted for the clothing I have been using star and A4 for my anime characters, But like i said i wishlisted it for all the options it looked like it had. I agree with you about needing more anime mamga male characters hiro and comet is getting a little wore out..lol
One of the major problems I always found with the Hiros is that they represented a major compromise in design that attempted to cover the entire genre in a single character base and, as a result, ended up not doing much of it well. Yes, they passed for some of the spindly still in high school high school types characters out there, but male anime characters run from the tall, wispy bishonen type, to the shorter, stockier look a lot of the younger male characers on the action shows affect, and then to massive musclebound lummoxes, often all in the same show. To do anime/manga properly, I think you'd need at least three base figures as starting points and more likely four or five.
Awesome, I'll have to give these a try. I had no idea they even existed, though I see that they're now mentioned on the product page. Of course, if you already have the product, you're not likely to go and look at the page, and I really don't go looking for freebies as much as I should. :).
I believe there are instructions over in the rendo freebies for melding 3DOutlaw/MayaX's Anime Girl head to Genesis1 for those who might have an interest. I think a link to the howto was in the product page comments.
Add the visual-style shaders from the DAZ store, and you have quite the character possibilities!
cheers,

@William_Rivera
FWIW, I really like what you've been doing in this arena lately. Can't wait 'til the next post/image sort of thing!
bravo!

Ken1171 has a Universal Anime head availble at Hivewire - with instructions how to attach it to any figure, it works well. He shoes examples of it attached to M4, V4 G2F and others. It comes with expressions as well varios as skin presets and different textures for eyes.
