EDIT: Help, no instructions for product.

It's my new rule, if instructions are not included, and/or you have to hunt down the information on how the program works, get a refund! Do NOT reward neglectful products with your money! I made that mistake when I bought the

I have a problem with Prism Custom Iray Camera  which literally has no information whatsoever on how to use it! (Save for this forum post, that needs to be updated)

Although I figured most of it out through lengthy trial and error, when Daz updated Studio the cameras were also overhauled rendering the most important settings in the product useless, (IE: the actual prism/lens) and NO, we should not have to file a ticket for something a PA is supposed to take care of before/after they release the product, (IE: update their programs)

Ironically, it is an excellent program it's just unfortunate that it has zero support!

so take my advice;

If instructions are not included, or if you have to rely on hours of hunting down the information, get a refund because this is a sure sign that the PA will not back up their product without your wasted time and effort hunting down solutions and instructions on the program.

Doesn't apply to me as I hardly ever look at a read me or any documentation. I learn by doing so thanks for the misguided advice, but I'll pass on refunds because a vendor left out something I probably wouldn't use in the first place.

Actually it looks like the PA had put instructions on using the camera in the notes when submitting the product, as they are found in the Wiki notes: http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/23016/start. Generally you would start with looking at the wiki either from the the web page or DIM as it will either give you the info or the location of any instructions. The OP could have saved hours by just starting there as I found the blurb in five minutes looking at the "Additional Details". Though the info should have been copied from the submission form; but then that wouldn't be the PAs fault.

FSMCDesigns, I am in the same boat as you, but I think that's something of a mean spirited retort with the use of the word, "misguided". Speaking just for me, I don't criticize products here because you know who might do you know what to your comment. That said, I agree that for anything complicated, instructions just make good sense. A happy customer is a repeat customers so in the end neglecting to include something like this is self defeating to the PA.

Or just ask on the forums and get a reasonably quick answer. People are available to help you. I do understand the frustration though.

Greybro: I don't know if I'd consider it a mean retort, given the wording and tone of the original post.

I do agree that instructions for some products are lacking as is the manner in which some are packaged.

They do make assumptions people will understand how to use them and don't package them correctly so they are confusing especially to new users.

I recently bought a specialty light set where no effort was made to organize it. It was confusing because there were no indications certain things needed to be applied first, and then second etc.   the set would've been far easier to use with the use of folders to break down the content in a usable fashion. The sets author could've added a Readmes reminding people to turn off certain features to get optimum results but instead they left it to the user to figure out and left all the content in a single jumbled file with content organized alphabetically so it took me about an hour to get good results from it.

it is a shame because better organization which just involved a few folders and a more easy to use naming system could've solved the dilemna. I organized it myself and now it is usable but pa's need to provide documentation and better packing of their products it really isn't a difficult thing to do.

Can we look at this the opposite way: Make sure to BUY stuff from PAs who include good directions and PAs who provide extra training on their DeviantArt site.

Agreed, just edited over most of my own bile, as I written earlier it's still there, as I don't delete my public errors.

I think you are referring to someone elsse, as the quote attributed to me, isn't mine =-) I essentially do think documentation could be better. It would certainly be useful to the user if things were clearer how to use them. =-)

Yeah, I prefer reddit's quoting system as I manually quoted you by highlighting so your username isn't attached, and yes, clarity would be appreciated.

    BTW, Fixed it.

Yes! There is one popular PA that I refuse to buy from anymore, because she NEVER documented anything. I found it too frustrating and don't want to torture myself anymore. cheeky
