Best 3D import format for Daz to work with?

I have a program that has an export option. it comes with various format presets. I used one and the object was able to save (the .obj file) And it exports an mtl file along with maps and skins etc....

The choices are Packed, PBR, PBR -separate water, Specular Gloss, full, FullHQ, Unreal 4, Unity 5.

Out of those choices, which one seems like the best match to open in Daz 3d with the least amount of problems?

When I did open it in Daz, I got the object, but it had no skin or surface etc..(It was a formless object that needed it's surface map ).I had a drop down to pick all the included files, like material etc...

So I know I was close. lol.

Any idea what export format Daz likes best?

Which program did you export from? The problem with the .obj format is that it's ancient in computer terms, and nowadays it seems every 3D program that can export it does so in a slightly different way. And not all of these match up with the way DAZ|Studio imports obj/mtl file pairs. The usual hiccup is with the .mtl file, which defines surface colours and links to texture files. If D|S glitches on the link between the .obj and .mtl files, or the texture links in the .mtl file, the result is generally something like what you got.

That said, .obj is the native import format for D|S, so it's probably your best option. You probably only need to open the .mtl file with a text editor and make sure the texture file links make sense; there are several different ways to do them, and D|S is notoriously fussy.

The program is called Grand Designer and it makes planets in space. It exports a 3D version with presets for other programs.

"The choices are Packed, PBR, PBR -separate water, Specular Gloss, full, FullHQ, Unreal 4, Unity 5."

I opened one of them in Daz and I got the planet and I had drop downs for skins and textures/materials etc.

So the .mtl file was definitely seen by Daz on import.

BUT, what is the best choice among those?

Maybe I should make its destination Export Folder a Content Library choice in Daz so I can always pick from there for any missing files right from ...Daz instead of always importing from the main menu.
