Aeon Soul Tau Ceti products and render style

First, I gotta say, I'm loving the new Tau Ceti Armor, and with the "loyalty discount" for previous owners of the G2F version, this was an insta-buy for me. The attention to detail and sheer variety of mix-and-match options is fantastic. My question is, does anyone know how A.S. achieves the look of their renders? They have an almost matte painted diorama look to them. Is it that they render using a different engine, like Octane or is it that they manually tweak all of the glossy settings for everything in the scene? I'm guessing that they use some sort of HDRI to create primarily flat lighting which enhances the style/look.

Hi!
Most of the look comes from the 3D setup, all Tau Ceti images where rendered in Iray with no special tweaking to the materials. We use the Iray settings/MATs that come with the products.
Mostly we use an HDRI and a couple/few more light emitters (depends on the scene). Once we export the scene as exr file, the tweaking in Photoshop is quite limited. If there is one image in particular you like I may be able to get into more detail!
Thanks for the support!

I have no idea but I have to say that armour totally rocks! I don't have the previous version but honestly, it looks like its worth every penny they are asking for it.
I would also like to thank AS. This is amazing and I immediately put the outfit and textures in the cart.
Thank you for your reply and the offer to ask more specific questions! I'd like to take you up on that. I'm also referring to how everything in your scenes seem to have that matte look (from character skins to physical environments). I just really like that look.
After I download the new products I'll see if I can set something up that's similar to one of your exquisite promo scenes and maybe you can help give me some feedback/pointers.
Regardless, thanks for another fantastic product!
Whether you like the AS style or not is a personal thing, but all AS products have fabulous detail and textures.
Aeon Soul releases are always exciting! I love looking at their awesome promos and gorgeous products. *_*
I really like these two promos. I love the story of the first; Alice exploring ancient ruins, or something, and her languid pose and crossed legs are just perfect. Love it.
I love the second for the tall framing, and of course, perfect action.
Fun with new toys! Test render, still tweaking lights. This is the new sci fi set Echo Lima Halls, Neive in Tau Ceti, and the soon to be released BOSS light set. Trying to get the emissives in the sci fi set lowered to match the BOSS dramatic presets. The emissives in the Tau Ceti armor are very easy to use.
Even the stuff they can't post here for various reasons is excellent. Anyone that watches their deviantArt page can attest to that.
Thanks, much appreciated :)! We have been producing this kind of content for more than 15 years and we like to think that we started to pack our product with value if not from the very beginning, at least soon enough!
You are most welcome, thanks for the support!
I am not sure about the "matte" look. At this point, even though our library of content is huge, we are trying to stick with PBR-ready content, it does make quite a difference because you get a more homogeneous look in your image. This is something we all gained with the introduction of PBR and is quite awesome as it is easier to get a more consistent look/feel even with content from many different merchants.
It is also important to use high quality, real HDRI images to achieve a good lighting. This website as some very nice ones: http://www.maximeroz.com/hdri-packs
Thanks very much for the awesome words!
It's nice to know which images especially caught your attention, we would do so many more, just wish the tools were faster (they are never fast enough)!
Looks good, great mood. It's very handy how you can select all clothing pieces together and change the light setting. She looks perfect in Tau Ceti!
Thanks very much, we really appreciate it :)!

Not sure what to point out in the settings since this was the first time we used Iray for a complete promo rendering, but perhaps they can come in handy to check and compare.
Forgot to add my final version of the above render. I had to switch some things out. Neive's sparkle makeup was wreaking havoc with some of the lights, so I put in Roxanne. I love the Tau Ceti armor and how easy it is to change everything by selecting all pieces. I wish more sets did this. Click for full pic.

I've only been here for a year but I have most of your store wishlisted and am working on aquiring it a bit at a time lol. I am very much looking forward to owning more of your stuff and am excited to see what else you will be making in the future.
Thanks for this (and the link to the HDRI site)! I have been putting a scene together using the new TCO armor and it will be interesting to compare my typical render settings to those you shared.
Well, here is my contribution to the thread.
