It's easy to be a backseat quarterback, and maybe this here was a rush job or there were other issues. Anyway I don't know if this is supposed to be a "sugar coating" effect on the objects, but it seems to me that you do a better in DS 4.x and Iray if you had the time and inclintation! Using products such as Maclean's "Everyday" sets like the groceries and coffee (or just the primitive shapes), or the other coffee and doughnuts set in the DAZ store. Just to name a few items.
Is there a shader that looks like sand castles I wonder, and could this be easily altered to look white?
Anyway you don't often see 3-D primitive shapes used in commercial art this way (at least I don't), and I thought it was of interest.

But their buddy that they gave that job to wouldn't get paid and that's what their buddy knows.
Here's a hi-res version. Reminds me of the texture on a popcorn ceiling. https://static01.nyt.com/images/2017/01/08/books/review/0108-BKS-BarberCOVER/0108-BKS-BarberCOVER-superJumbo.jpg
I think it was an artistic statement and meant to look like that
