Setting up Daz on a new system?

I'm setting up Daz on another Mac Pro. I have a SSD for system and apps, and a second 500gb drive for daz content. Should I copy content from the original machine? Or re-install through install manager?  And how do I set up a folder on the 500GB drive for content and direct all content to be installed there (and not the default folder)?

In DIM, you can set the directory it is supposed to store the content. Do that preferably before you start downloading anything.

You'll also have to make that directory known to Studio in the Content Directory Manager. Also, make sure you also set your DAZ Connect library folder to the second drive in Studio, or it will happily store to the default directory.

Start DIM in Offline mode initially so you can set your preferences.

And don't forget DIM has two content locations that can be changed if you want to — the actual installed content location that DAZ|Studio reads its content files from, and the download location where DIM puts the installers it gets from the DAZ servers.

Two things to remember about that second one; first, you can set DIM to delete the installers after the content has been installed, which is useful if you're a bit short of space on your drives. Second, remember that it exists; if you're moving your content files because your main drive is getting full, the default downloads location will still keep filling up unless you change it.

  • I recently Migrated my WinDozzze Machine, so I don't know just how much this will help. I copied my Studio/Runtime Directories over from an External Drive.
and Imported a copy of my User Data.

At that Point; DAZ saw all of my Renderosity/Poser Content Just fine.

But I still had to Install IM and let it make believe that it was installing all my DAZ store content on the new computer before it saw any of it. I'm quite sure it did not in fact Download any of that content. Over the next few days after I found alot of paths had been lost and I had to search my C Drive for content. At that point; till now; it seems like I finally was back to Zero and fully recovered vs my original Machine and content. BB.

Thanks for the help. It's more challenging than I thought. If I set up this other destination on the other drive, will DIM still create or label content according to type (vehicles, people, locations, etc) so they will be organized in Smart Content?
