Imported .obj...where's its material/skin?

So I'd like to use an item outside of the Daz store Install manager system...

I can IMPORT the .obj and see the object/file inside Daz Studio 4.9. Yay.

The object is grey and needs its skin/material. How do I get Daz to BROWSE for a skin/material file or also IMPORT files onto the selected object in my scene?

I googled this and I saw a reference to the library manager and adding directories so my new objects show up in the Smart content tab. Didn't add any new items...

I've moved all the files that came with the object into the "open file location" place that DAZ uses for all my other items. So I know it's within the Daz scope of things it could find in the runtime library. I want to manually add the material by navigating to it or importing it into DAZ.

There must be way to ADD material to Daz....but how?

Somewhat unrelated, but I don't know if it's proper etiquette to start numerous threads at once.....

I've edited...say victoria 7 into a brand new character. How do I SAVE that as an independent figure or actor so I can load her directly?

I googled this too and say the reposnse about Tri-weight etc....any new method so I can create people?

Merchants are selling "people" based on FIGURES so how is character creation handled?

I have poser too, but want to do everything is Daz...

Thanks for any help.

  • The Surface pane is used to edit material settings - you need to select the surface in the list on the left of the Editor tab, and the object itself if you want to apply a shader preset rather than using the Default Daz Shader (the Surface Selection tool allows you to select both object and surfaces in one click). Textures are imported by clicking the little square to the elft of a colour bar or strength slider, or by clicking the button for properties that have neither, and selecting Browse...

Is it just shaping you want to save? If so use File>Save as>Shaping Preset. You can also use a Character preset which saves both shape and materials, and which will load the figure if you don't have it loaded and selected when double-clicking the preset.

Select the object. Go to the Surface tab. See if it has any surface defined (usually, it should have the default surface). You can then apply the Iray default Uebershader, or 3DL base shader, and insert your texture maps in the appropriate slots.

The saving, either go and save her as Character Preset, or (if you also want to save her hair&Clothing) as Scene subset.
