If DAZ really wants to attract new PC+ customers...

If they want to attract more people who might be on the fence about joining the PC+ it might be useful to show what the actual discounts would be when you visit the "Join the Platinum Club +"....
When I go there, there is a banner that says "Save 30% on DAZ originals, including new releases"... With a clickable link "see all"... But as far as I can tell, yes, it shows the "all" that can be seen, but not with the possible PC discount...
Wouldn't you want to tempt me with the actual discount price I'd pay and not have me figure out the difference?
Yeah, it's not rocket science to do the math, but there are a lot of people in this world to whom not seeing a discount visually is not very tempting.
In general I don't get why when there are certain sales on DAZ originals they don't add a "If You Were PC+ Member, You'd Pay: $ X.XX For This!" Maybe it's too hard to add as a feature, maybe it is against the mystic rules of marketing, but at least for me, when I don't see what my actual savings might be, I don't care all that much... The savings become less real, less enticing... Sorta like when you are buying tires (or whatever) at some site and you see a bunch of tires your size with "okay" prices but for some reason they never want to tell you the price of the "special deal"... You always have to add it to your cart or re-enter your info to see the sale price, which usually ends up being a lame discount not worth the effort... My reaction is just to hit the back button and find a place that just tells me the price...
I only mention this because it's relevant to a conversation I had with some friends a few days back, who more or less agree on this sorta stuff, maybe it's my age group or we are more cynical or whatever, but some people tend to think that way... So when I accidentally clicked on the PC+ banner and noticed the "see all" didn't really show a discount (at least for me), I thought I'd mention this.
That and I'm bored at the moment, because I know over the many years I've been here that 95% of the forum based suggestions and observations go unheeded and the odds of anyone from DAZ actually reading this is about same as successfully navigating an asteroid field while blindfolded with an angry badger gnawing about in your pants...
Well, either way it's okay, so Happy New Year to all.

Not sure I agree. I mean: they already tell you that it's 30% off, so how hard can it be to do the math yourself? There's already a ton of information coming your way in the shop, even without membership you'll be confronted with discounts. So even more optional discount information can only become utterly confusing I think.
Still, I do think there's room for improvement but that has more to do with the purchase. As of right now you can only become a member based on subscription. You either get a quaterly or annual subscription. For someone without a creditcard and only a Paypal account that can be quite an issue. For example: I refuse to link my bank account to paypal because I prefer the separation between the two. In the unlikely event "something bad" happens to my Paypal account I know exactly what could be at stake. But it won't be anything more than that, because Paypal can't access my other financials (they would certainly like to).
It's a security measure, and in my opinion well needed. But this also means that I can't become a Platinum member. Not at all. If you don't link your bank account then Paypal refuses to sort out subscriptions like that.
As such I think Daz should consider to make the whole thing more accessible by allowing people to become a member for a set amount of time. Not a quaterly subscription, but a one time $24 payment after which you'll be a member for 3 months and that's it. No worries for customers about recurring payments, no more confusion about "but will I still be a member if I cancel the renewal?" and no more trouble with Paypal. Sure, you should be able to renew or extend by purchasing another period, but nothing automated.
I think that makes the whole thing really accessible and would definitely attract more people because it'll be a lot easier. Even with Paypal.
You can always use PayPal to buy a Gift card and then Use the GC to pay the PC+ sub. You can check this by filing a ticket with the help desk.
Never tell me how odd.
I'm pretty certain your suggestion has been suggested before. I even have a vague memory of suggesting an adjacent (smaller text) price in PC+ purple myself (or that might be just Bosnian suggesters).
One forum member got a thousand bucks store credit for a suggestion on here (really), but that was a 3,720 to 1 longshot.
Not sure what you mean - since you do see a 'This is what you'd save in the PC' when you check out?
And I read a decent chunk of the forums, for what it's worth. Admittedly I spend more time in the MO forum, but threads like this do usually catch my eye ;)
I think what McGyver is suggesting is having the PC+ member discounted price displayed on each item as well as the non-member price. It might make the otherwise unaware (non-member) customer very interested in how to get that lower price.
That's what I was suggesting, anyway. Back then and now.
I see the you could save with a pc membership but doesn't really grab me normally I add one or 2 at a time and the discount showing just doesnt make much sense to add an additional 24 to a total just to save 2-5, even when I had the membership that extra percentage didn't add up, it says an additional 30% so if a new DO Base model that is already discounted 30% shouldn't being a pc member add an additional 30 on to that if so shouldnt a 44.95 base model be under 22.48
That's how it works for me (e.g. Darius base figure currently showing at $22.03 (that's 30% off the 30% off price, making 51% off the full price)). If you weren't seeing that level of reduction, it is possible you were not logged in. If you were logged in (and your membership was current) and not seeing that, a query with DAZ sales would certainly be in order.
The DAZ store has always had awful usability, even after they redid it a couple of years back. PC+ is the least of its problems.
Heck. I am a PC+ member and half the time I can't even find the monthly freebies page.
http://www.daz3d.com/platinum-club-freebies - keep that in your bookmarks :) or just remember to hit up the main PC image on the carousel at the top of the store, and from there its under Weekly Freebies
Will take that as a compliment :D
gives me a 404
The ; was throwing it I think, the link should work now.
What Peter Fulford said is correct, that's what I meant...
The discussion I had with some friends prior to me making the post started in regards to most of them holiday shopping at a particular clothing/home goods store (rhymes with coal) that has very DAZ-like sales, coupons and offers (even "store dollars").
The store in question started (about two years ago) putting up LCD display signs on each rack that has sale items... It shows your savings right at the rack and you know the $60 item which is $20 with base discount is actually going to cost $15 with the additional discount... The discussion (which I did not initiate) included mention of apps or store sites that let you know from the start what the actual cost of an will be and how great that is and how much better and easier it was to shop...
This is very helpful for people who are not wealthy, on a budget or actually care how much they spend because they know they have $80 to spend at the moment and it's easier to keep track of what you are about to spend.
Capitalistically that's a bad thing, because the hope is you dont think much about the price and are like "Weeeeeeee, spendy-spendy!" but realistically most people actually like knowing the cost of stuff.
The possible discount showing at checkout is okay, but not enticing... Sort of like checking out at a store and the cashier saying "That'll be $182.91... Aw, too bad you're not a Super-Duper Zinc Club member, it would have been $92... Oh well!"... You'd be like, "Wow, $92... Cool... Well, maybe next time if I remember... Where do they get these annoying cashiers?"...
If someone is on a budget (yes, some people are), having to put stuff in the cart and go to check out (to see PC+ price savings)... (Incidentally why "plus"? Is there an non "plus" version?... I propose calling it "Super-Duper Platinum Club Deluxe" in its next incarnation... It's only slightly more stupid, but 11.6% harder to type and "SDPCD" is 84.26% more confusing then "Platinum Club Plus" which people can easily incorrectly name as "Platinum Plus Club" which sounds too much like "Platypus Club" which only conjures images of weird wet marsupials and not huge savings) ... Anyway, it's an added step that interferes with the flow of buying stuff... Like when you are shopping on line at sites where half the stuff is "See The Amazing Sale Price" but, it has to be in the cart and about to be checked out for you to see the discount... Which makes me say "Boooooooring!" And close the window and find a store that actually tells me the price beforehand so I can say "Wow, that is pretty good!"... Granted it's not the same because there aren't a lot of places you can buy a virtual thong for a sexy boobilicious robot girl, but the mechanics behind the interruption of the purchasing flow is the same.
Saying "You coulda saved X$" at checkout is after the fact and either disappointing or ineffective, because realistically how many people are going to go back and purchase a PCP membership (I like that abbreviation better... It's more psychedelic)? It's more effective when you look at the robo-thong and see it's only $24 if you are on PCP... Then you keep that more realistic sum in mind and say to yourself "If I was on PCP, I could also afford that elephant-man AND that seal-boy and I could finally make that graphic novel about that crime fighting team of misfits I've always wanted to make, but didn't because I wasn't on PCP!"... Seeing the discount at checkout after you have plodded through all the pages of cra... Stuff you were looking at... (Not everyone sees what they want on that first page... Some of us "search" for stuff... Spending "time" looking for something that either fits the general idea/look of what we need/want or tickles our fancy (if you like stuff tickling those bits)... Not everyone is like "BAM!"-"That's what I want... Toooooooo CHECKOUT!!!"... (I need to get more sleep)... You spend twenty minute riffling through the store looking for stuff, especially if you are an infrequent shopper or new and all you want to do is check the hell out and render or just get on with your life and seeing "HA-HA, you coulda saved" is cold consolation on the way out the door and you don't have interest in going back and buying PCP...
But that probably only relevant if DAZ actually wants to sell PCP... Which they seem to want to since the first banner is the PCP ad and they are always going on about PCP sales and discounts... I don't know really, I forgot if I was talking about narcotics or a club membership by this point and either way it's highly pointless to bother going on because there is a 97% chance that nobody is reading this or if they are it doesn't apply to them because they are on PCP (membership or possibly both)... That and I seriously doubt that even if DAZ wanted to add the feature I mentioned, they could get it to work consistently or wouldn't do it in some profoundly odd way that people would be more confused by... I've lost track of how many times I've come here and seen stuff for either ridiculously low or comically high prices because the store software had a stroke and started wonking out... Just the other day I stopped by and saw some insane prices which I couldn't believe and just attributed to the store having a breakdown (which I think was the case because of a thread title I saw)...
None of this is a criticism, it's just me saying "Hey, if you don't want people saying those pants make your butt look HUGE, then don't wear them"... Which probably sounds a lot like a criticism or even me making fun of DAZ's huge butt, but it's not... Mostly... It's because I care... Actually, not so much anymore, but I used to and that probably counts... Probably, not... Maybe it's more of a suggestion, but since I know those pants are surgically fused to DAZ's flesh, I suppose it's more of a moot point, which means there is really no point in me explaining why I brought this up or continuing to write unless I'm just bored and waiting for them to finish putting new tires on my damn car so I can get the hell out of here...
I am pretty bored... But I really do enjoy spending time making suggestions I know nobody will ever implement or regular customers will never ever care about because that feature or suggestion no longer would effect them...
Alas, the mechanic with the cheese danish crumbs in his beard (I hope it's pastry crumbs), is looking at me like... "As part of my Jedi training I'm gonna stare at you but not indicate through any sort of body language or verbal communication, that you should come over here because I need to say something, possibly important... Come to me... Come..." So I should go before one of his eyes pops out or something.
Luv yaz all... Ba-bye.
PC+ is the successor to the original PC, with changed rules. For a while people could be old PC or new PC, so they needed labelling.
