DRM expiration question

I apologize for mentioning the Three Letters Of Doom, and I promise this isn't a discussion of the virtues or vices of DRM or anything like that. (At least, I'm not starting it that way. I take no responsibility for anything anyone else does. I hope the moderators and their Axes of "STAY ON TRACK OR HASSAN CHOP!" can keep things ... well, on track.)

Someone noted in another thread that DRM is due to expire on some items this month. And I was wondering what happens then? How will we know when one of the items we purchased loses its DRM Status and is available via manual download or DIM? Will it suddenly appear as an update in DIM?

For example, Dragon Queen drops DRM, or should, on or about 1/22/2017 (sale date 1/21/2016). How will we know that it's happened?

I assume there will, at the least, be a metadata update to let Studio itself know that the product can be installed more than one way, but Studio doesn't automatically update files like that without being told to do so, and it would just put things back in the connect directory anyway. (That said, if you've actually used a product installed via Connect and then want to uninstall, then reinstall with DIM or manually outside of the /data/cloud directory structure, you'd need to check your scenes anyway, because it could break file/directory references inside saved scenes, so you might have gray blobbiness everywhere.)

So given that we're at Two Weeks And Change before the first product changeover ... what happens next?

Those of us interested will be watching; but I agree, I would be interested in the process.
