Lost content after changing view

I changed the view settings on my version of DS4.9 and some features seem to have gone missing.

My plug in for reality 4 is no longer there and I have had a message saying Postgre SQL CMS is missing

How can I reset therse. I have tried logging out and re installling Reality with no effect and the Postgre seems to be in the DS folder so am at a loss

Please help

  • Jus done a total uninstall and re install of both Daz and Reality. No difference....

Used the Daz uninsaller for DS  and the Postgre SQL folder is insiode the daz folder in applications as it was before and I think as it should be. However on first loading DS the attached screen shot appeared...

Reality removed and then re installed and it all looks okay except it does not show in the render window of DS

  • To be honest I have no idea what the Postgre thing does, I think its something to do with Install managewr but as I dont actually use that its probably not important to me anyway. What is important and a real nuisance is the loss of Reality.

  • PostgreSQL is the database that provides the Content Management System - Smart Content, Categories, and some other features that rely on identifying the content type. If that is being blocked and Reality is suddenly unavailable I wonder if an update to your system or security software might be interfering - what are your system specs, and what security software do you use (if any)?

  • Hi Richard

    System specs as follows

    Hardware Overview:

      Model Name:    iMac

      Model Identifier:    iMac12,2

      Processor Name:    Intel Core i5

      Processor Speed:    2.7 GHz

      Number of Processors:    1

      Total Number of Cores:    4

L2 Cache (per Core):    256 KB

      L3 Cache:    6 MB

      Memory:    16 GB

      Boot ROM Version:    IM121.0047.B23

      SMC Version (system):    1.72f2

      Serial Number (system):    C02H93HXDHJP

      Hardware UUID:    DF484AB5-A3C5-55FF-82F1-46332E33E148

Dont use any security software and until I altered the workspace layout I had no problems at all with any of this. I am now using Hollywood Bvd and my versions of both DS and Reality are bang up to date. Everything seems to be where it should be on my system...

I have restarted the machine, reloaded everything and done all that I can think of, except for the nagging feeling that something really simple and basic is causing this I cannot think of anything else to do.

I had the idea that Postrgre was about the IM but, as I said, I prefer to conrtrol my content manually so thats not as issue for me but, as you say, may be indicative of something else.

    Thanks for your time

  • Sorry, I should have spotted that it was a Mac from the close box placement. On a Mac permissions are the most likely cause though I'm not an expert.

OK, will look at this in a few.. stay tuned...

If you delete the DAZ Studio log ~/Library/Application Support/DAZ 3d/Studio4/log.txt and run DAZ Studio 4.9 again, and post the log here it might help to start to track down the problem.

  • Unfortunately my level of intelligence forbids my being able to find the Daz studio log to delete. Which gives me the next problem, which is posting it here after running DS again.

This may help. I have Reality and can access it from my desktop. I can render anything I am doing within DS in that way. This whole thing makes no sense to me but then tech stuff rarely does....

Happy nrew year to everyone incidentally....

  • What I meant by the last posting here was that I have no idea how find the application support which probably means that I am exhibiting a high degree of stupidy but thats my norm..

    It's here: ~/Library/Application Support/DAZ 3d/Studio4/

    ~ is your home directory.

  • Yep I am exhibiting stupidity in that my home directory means very little to me. Its the location shown as the little house in the sidebar of finder yes?

When I open this I cannot see anything called library so have no idea what to do next. I can see two TXT folders called reality plug in log and reality installer log

but no Daz  studio log. Getting bogged down with this search and have no idea where to go now...

Just copy ~/Library/Application Support/DAZ 3d/Studio4/ and in Finder go Command+Shift+G and paste that in in the Sheet text field, and Finder takes you there.

  • See how easy it is when someone holds your hand, and trust me I am grateful that there is someone prepared to hold mine...

    Important lines:
Connected to CMS: PostgreSQL 9.3.4 on x86_64-apple-darwin, compiled by i686-apple-darwin11-llvm-gcc-4.2 (GCC) 4.2.1 (Based on Apple Inc. build 5658) (LLVM build 2336.9.00), 64-bit

So it does connect to the Postgres CMS database, that's good, do you still see that problem?

I guess you do  not have any Cuda installed and no nVidia GPU.

What version of OS X are you running? 10.12 (Sierra)?

  • yes the problem still exists.

Your right about not Cuda installed nor do I have Nvidia GPU

As for the version its 10.11 el capitan, didnt like Sierra so apple helped me revert back to the earlier version.

Being totally honest, and this did not occur to me before now, when in DS I have to call up reality to use it, its actually no more effort to click onto the shortcut on my desk top and call it up that way. The thing is why it doesnt show inside Daz as it did before...

Thanks for your help by the way...

Exactly where did it show up?

It might be that Reality plugin was showing up as it was in the old config settings but when you changed the layout old outdated things were removed or moved to another location.

  • okay. Prior to changing the view settings in DS i called Reality from the render link that showed in the DS app, top of screen named render. Once I changed the view I continued using DS until I tried to call up Reality at which point I realised that the Reality option was missing. After some checking and all I could see was that everything appeared to be where it should have been I decided to go back to basics. I deleted both DS and Reality and installed them again. Once again everything appears to be where it should be, but Reality cannot be called from within the DS app.

Have you asked Paolo, the guy making Reality? I don't have a Reality render button in 4.9 (but as I don't use it anymore I really didn't miss it)

Contact him via the Preta3D support forum or email.

  • I have asked him via the Reality forum and am currently waiting for a reply after some conversation. Guess this means the answer has eluded you but hey, its the same for me...

I really appreciate your giving up your time so thank you loads...

  • Just had a post in the Reality forum. If anyone ever has this problem to cure it you simply switch the view to something else, if you wish to you can then return to your preferred view, Reality is then available from within DS

Solution courtesy of sigstan on the Reality forum, not from dim witted old me...

And I thought I had told you to do that but I see I didn't (it was in another thread with a similar but different problem)
