Truth in advertising: Fast Grab and Freebies do not change daily

This is only a minor complaint, but the "updates daily" and the reference to "today's freebies" suggest something that's not true. I understand why Daz might not want to commit to a regular schedule for Fast Grab or Freebies, but the current wording suggests they have committed to a daily schedule and are constantly blowing it. Which is odd given that Daz is very dependable when it comes to offering new content and providing good customer service.

I'm so glad that they didn't keep to a daily change. I was able to get Hospital Room on its third day of Fast Grab. And it appears that they may be helping Orestes Graphics out by keeping his stuff on extended sale. They also did this for Ron Deviney when he had medical bills.

For Fast Grab....sometimes it does, there are even times when it updates more than once in a 24 hr period.

The Freebies...well, they used to do them daily, then they put a few up at a time...now it's like 14 at once and update them every couple of weeks.   But the pool of items that goes up there ends up cycling and repeats are common, so if you see nothing, that means you already own the current crop.

  • Being a good pendant, I can't agree that "Today's Freebies" implies a daily change. It simply refers to any freebies that are available today. If they happen to be the same freebies that have been available every day since before the old king died, so be it.

And "updates daily" may refer to the server calendar for the FastGrab page.

If not, we should demand our money back and complain to the authoriteeeeeees.

I've heard that the old Fast Grab was a matter of the number of licenses sold for any given item. So if a PA only wanted to sell 10 copies at that price, it would disappear from the page after the 10th purchase. Over the 2.5 years I've been shopping at DAZ, I've noticed Fast Grab does not update on weekends. Sometimes the products added to Fast Grab on a Thursday won't change until the following Tuesday. And when there are mega-sales going on, like March Madness, the PA Festival, and the PC Anniversary sale, Fast Grab hardly changes at all. And sometimes, when the whole store is on sale, there's nothing listed!

On the one hand, if there isn't anything in Fast Grab that you want, (or you've taken advantage of the offers already,) it's easy to be iimpatient for the next turnover. But on the other hand, as xyer0 pointed out, having the products available for several days allows more people to take advantage of the offers.

Perhaps it would be more accurate to state, "These offers can change at any time, anywhere from a few hours to several days." But "Updates Daily" does get the necessary urgency across: Buy now. Expect it to be gone tomorrow.

I agree. It's definitely misleading. The way it's worded sounds like it changes daily, and it most definitely doesn't. At least not as long as I've been here.

As much money as I've spent supporting Daz and its community of artists, it would be nice if they could at least put up a few new freebies from time to time... as it is, I see about one a month if I'm lucky unless I, too, uncheck the hide items I own box. The ones I typically see, if I see any, are textures for something I'm not likely to buy. With Iray materials and shaders in abundance, I rarely buy textures at all.

yes I recall the limited number days long before I joined the PC,  and grabbed many at odd times, it felt rather exciting.

These days its a slow grope.

Every once in a while they'll drop something fun in there....a while back some bundles showed up, granted they were for older figures, but still they had some nice stuff in them.

you know what would be awesome and many would love, is a vault snatch.

Figures like V2, M2 and their clothes for which textures are still sold in the store.

I have the figures but there are clothes I do not have who's textures are still sold.

Some of that old stuff is quite unique and still useful.

I stopped looking at fastgrab. There is seldom anything I want in there. For freebies I periodically sort by price and look at the lowest price item. Often items which are free are listed there not in the freebie area.

  • if you follow the product suggestion sub forum you will often find people making small free items for each other. Right there is a wealth of free items. not only that but right here on the forums are many many talented artists that haven't quite taken the jump to selling their items, or don't have the time. Daz should thus use the free section as a way to grow their vendor base by allowing users to release small free items. the items don't have to be supported by daz even. i understand its too much work, so let the community filter them and choose the ones that are worth while. they could even have themes. say bladed weapons, furniture etc, get people to submit, vote, and then list a bundle every week of small useful props.

Oh cool, I didn't know that! Thank you for the suggestion! :) I'll take a look.

Do you have any ones that you recommend?

  • This turned into a more useful discussion that I expected. Thanks, all!

the3Ddigit, I really like your vault snatch idea. I like the old figures because they're not trying to come anywhere near the uncanny valley, and there are some nice-looking accessories that were never updated for later models.

That is what the Freebie forum (previously known as the Freepository) is all about.  If you check the forum index list it says  "Share your self-created freebie here for everyone to enjoy."

And in the sticky thread headed "WELCOME TO THE FREEPOSITORY" it says  "This forum is a place for the community to let each other know about free items that they've created and wish to share."

We also have a request thread there where people can ask for specific freebies   http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/30004/general-freebie-requests-part-2/p1

Well the last few weeks have been Christmas/Holiday season,  so it could be tough doing an update on Fastgrab,  if they're not even in the office.  Just a possibility.

That might work for DAZ owned products; but I believe there are at least some PAs who feel that their older products don't live up to their current standards and don't want them released.

The week before Christmas they gave away freebies every day.  You had the opportunity to get 36 items free in all, out of 4000+ possibilities.
