What's the best way to do Outdoor lighting(3DDelight)?
in The Commons
I have light dome-r. its great but i just want to use it for backgrounds. For characters, i want to use the 3DDelight.
I can use the Lightdome pro-r and use the option Render instead of Render-LDP-R but i don't know if it looks good enough. it lacks something. It's not very realistic. Here's a picture. ANd plus you're supposed to use the Render LDP-R option for Light dome pro but i just using the regular Render.
Anyways does this look good?
I'm doing animation with the characters and Light Dome Pro-R requires you to go to GIMP or Photoshop for each frame and perform a series of actions to compose the image from a series of layers. So as you can see, i wouldn't do that it's a hassle process for animation.

Personally, if you are going to work with lighting in 3DL, I can't recommend AoA lights highly enough. I use them almost exclusively in 3DL.

Get it first chance you can, you won't be disappointed.
Some of the cool features have broken due to new versions, but even without them the lights are MASSIVELY useful... and fast. Most of my scenes are AoA Distant (maybe a bit yellowish) at 150% (set shadow to 100 or 200%, set shadow fidelity to .1 cm) + AoA Ambient (a bit bluish) at 50% (set light range to be 0, so it doesn't have a cut-off).
Ambient light is cool because if you do use the light range, everything within that range of wherever you put it gets diffuse, ambient lighting. That can be great for, say, adding a general undirected amount of light around the subject of your scene without obviously using a spot (though sometimes you DO want a spot)
