Are there any Old Men/Women for sale or is it better to just used Aged for Gen 2?
in The Commons
Aged for Gen 2 makes Gen 2 figures look old. well they're morphs and it tries. I tried looking for actual old people in the store and there's not much. There's an actual couple at rendo but it's for Gen 3 and they come with no clothes. I 've been getting everything for Gen 2 so i tend to avoid Gen 3 characters .

Personally I feel it's better to use Aged for Genesis 2. I have the version for Genesis 3 and it does an excellent job without the wierd frozen-wrinkle over-the-top normal maps and diffuse textures.
Thanks alot. will do that. THe only thing is that the maps used will be the same maps for younger males females without any skin imperfections and that takes away from the illusion that it is an old person
I've enjoyed getting a few models, like Bellatrix, but Aged does a LOT.
I also like Skin Overlay for adding various age elements to skin textures.
You underestimate the power of the mind to ignore detail and pay attention to a few cues that are typical for appearance older people:
1. folk have more wrinkles (but the way people work in real life is we notice their emotional expressions more than their wrinkles so art work that triers to be physically exact look like they are being over the top and unduly critical)
2. usually tanner, more freckles and moles, and sometimes age spots
3. Whiter, greyer, lighter hair
4. A bit of saggyness as opposed to wrinkles due to lose of muscle and fat deposits but only in some people not all
5. Noses and earlobes grow
6. With loss of some of all or the teeth, there are changes in the mouth and jaw line.
Now except for the lighter/whiter/greyer hair and the skin pigmentation changes the aging morphs can do all those and give your renders / animations the right hint of aging without seeming like you are trying to be critical or exactingly realistic. If your goal with the texture sets is to be exactingly realistic you can't do that now anyway, maybe in the future 1 - 5 years out?
You can buy them if you like there are several out there and they are good quality for the limitations of the technology: George, Opal, Ivan, and the newest guy and those textures work from a distance or if you are careful with lighting and facial expressions so that they match the wrinkle patterns embedded in the texture sets but white and grey hair and the aging morphs are more flexibly artistically realistic for renders and animations.
Thank you for the responses. One question i have because this is one of the reasons I kinda wanted to look for something more believeble is the eyes. I'll use Aged for Gen2. it's great i know but when i apply it to the face the eyes remain pefectly round, the skin doesn't sag or fold around them. Is that something you have to do via the eye dials or does Aged for Gen2 have a morph dial that does it. ?
I searched and there doesn't seem to be a Skin overlay for Gen 2. only v4 and v5
Genesis 2 can use both V4 & V5 maps.
Look what i mean about the eyes. They remain perfectly round without any skin sag or wrinkles. Is there a morph i should be using to dry up/age the corner of the eyes and eyelids? LIke i mean in the General face/head morphs of Gen 2.
I attached my Gen 2 and a photo of an old gentleman. See what i mean about the eyes? The eyes in my Gen 2 who is using the Aged product look round and young. HOw would i make them look more believable. I'm sure there is an eyemorph or something
Good aged bodies/skins: Bellatrix, Joanie
Under aging morphs, there's a slew of stuff under Actor/Head/Real World/Aging/Eyes, like Eye Bags, Eye Sag, etc.
Well at the outside corners of the eyes those are called crow's feet, the top eyelid is called eye sags, the bottom eyelid is called eye bags.
And the main thing you are ignoring is alot of that old man's wrinkles and face shape are actually due to his laugh. You have too many wrinkles applied to your model.
I can't find any of those. I just see things like Aging Face Base HD, Aging Face Details 1 HD, Aging Face Details 2 HD(Which are the ones i set to 100% in my image above)
OH I found the eye morphs. I didn't find them before because i had "Aging" in the search box. but i removed it so now i found what timmins was telling me about.
nonesuch, how much wrinkles should i have on the face?
I set it at Aging Face Base HD 100% Aging Face Details 1 HD 100%, Aging Face Details 2 HD 100% and Aging face Details 1 SHD 100%
and Aging Face Details 2 SHD 100%. I'm asuuming tha'ts not the way to go about it
I THINK if you use HD morphs, you don't need the SHD morphs. SHD is only for when you don't/can't use HD.
I also find that the Aging Face X is best in very small amounts, and prefer to drive the look from other stuff.
What I often do is filter for 'Agi' and then hunt down the right location, then remove the filter, because the aging morphs are kind of scattered throughout the hierarchy.
Well if you are trying to emulate the wrinkling of the picture of the old man you need to do these steps:
1. Pose the character
2. Pose the character expression of the character as the man's face 1st - this will take a while and you won't be able to exactly but you can get close. It is a very good laugh.
3. Now you can add the wrinkles and want percent I can't say for you - you have to look at the picture of the old man with his laugh already posed and adjust your character to try & match. Likely they won't all be 100% and some will actually not be needed like look at how smooth his cheeks are from his laugh.
4. If you get the laugh expression such you really like you should save it as an expression/pose preset.
5. Ideally when you add the eye bags they should fold up into deep wrinkles under the eyes with his laugh but you need to try the eye bag percents both with and without the laugh to make sure the percentage of the wrinkles and sags you are choosing is realistic. However, you can save the character with or without the wrinkles applied as a character preset - just remember that the wrinkles settings have to change with the expression and the pose. Some of them wrinkle and sag presets like neck wattle - you can leave in all the time though in most cases.
The reason you pose the laugh expression first is because you don't have a picture of this man's face when he has a neutral expression. Ideally after posing the laugh and adding the wrinkles to be as similar to that man's picture as possible when you return the man to a neutral expression you should have a reasonable set of the most prominent wrinkles on the model that are similar to this man's in real life. They'll be slightly different because the face geometries are diffrent and real world skin characteristics are different but they'll be reasonably similar.
Only in these forums can you find a thread that starts "Are there any Old Men/Women for sale" and not have it followed by something that is criminal, lol!
Look at this post: #3 shows use of SimTernero randomizer on Odelle (older woman) and aging morphs on G3M. #8 shows Abel and Opal, older male and female Genesis 3 figures.
[edit: oops, just noticed you're not interested in Genesis 3. I'll have to look at what I have for Genesis 2.]
Zev0's Aging morphs, frankly do a better job at aging a character (particularly if you want subtle aging) than the old gen4 morphs did for their aged characters, although there are a few older ones that I've GenXed into service. But aged skins are usually needed as well. Fortunately gen4 skins can be used on G1 and G2 (although conversion to .duf is usually required). And there are quite a lot of those, if you hunt.
G3 is where it gets a bit dicy, since you need to either use Cayman system's patch to get the skin onto G3, or go hunting for an actual G3 aged skin. Since G3 has only been around for a year and a half, there aren't anywhere near as many of them as there are for gen4 (which has been around for a decade) or G1 and G2. There are a few of them though.
HI guys thanks for all the comments . here is my improved version :) I'm happy with it.
