Half strength Toon Generations?

The new Toon Generations are wonderful and very tempting... but I don't do a lot that's that heavily toon stylized.

Can someone show me how they look at, say 50%? Or mixed 25% toon Generation, 25% Aiko/Kenji 7?  Is mixing like that even possible?  I know they're brand new, but the few renders I have seen have them at full strength.

If you look at the promos there is an image with a mix

Ah, I missed that.  Although mixed with Star is still a bit more toon than I usually go.  Still, good to know that mixing is possible. :)

    Thank you.

  • I'm working on a render now. They integrate very well from what I've tried so far. The new toon generations have an aging dial which adds a lot of versatility as well. Will post when I get it done.

Here is the toon gen 2 male and female dialed in at 50% and aging dial at 50%. The male has 25% George added. He'a also wearing a toon gen 1 outfit so the clones work well too. The female has Aiko added at 50%. No other tweaks. I used the 3delight skin that came with each and the render was done in 3delight.

2nd pic the female has 50% Bethany along with bethany skin and the male is dialed back to 25% on toon gen and added 50% Michael with Michael Skin. Still 3delight (my computer doesn't play well with Iray)

  • There's a catch: the age dial doesn't cover its full range when ToonGen2 isn't at full strength. It may be possible to work around by manually adjusting the hidden morphs it controls, but my early tests suggest that's more complicated than it should be.

Cool.  Thank you.  They just got a lot more tempting... :)  (I may see if I can hold out until Saturday, when my mad money refreshes, just in case there are any one day only things between now and then.)

Not a Toon guy but these do look very nice and the fact that they can use G3 clothing makes them quite versatile indeed!

That would have been my next question.  So the answer is yes, they can wear G3 clothing?

Yeah, it looks like it: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/136871/post-your-toon-generations-2-renders

    :)

    And from the product description:

    • Toon Generations (original) Clone shape for Genesis 3 Male enables original Toon Generations content to be loaded and automatically converted to fit the new Genesis 3 Male figure
    • Toon Generations (original) Clone shape for Genesis 3 Female enables original Toon Generations content to be loaded and automatically converted to fit the new Genesis 3 Female figure

So because they have the clones they can wear G3M and G3F clothing. :)

The clones are to fit the clothes for these toons

    http://www.daz3d.com/toon-generations-mega-bundle

As the Toon 2 are morphs of G3 they don't need clones to autofit clothing made for G3 figures and G3 come with the opposite gender clone.

Okay here you go, First image is basic default G3F with Toon Gen 2 at 25% & Aiko 7 at 25% (I don't have Kenji 7 at the moment so I can't help with that mix).

The second image is the same but with the Toon Gen 2 Age slider set to 30 (up from the default 10).

For a little fun I dialed in Mr. Bear from Joequick at 50% with 50% toon generatons 2. It's an interesting mix and character. I bought the mega bundle yesterday and plan to add the Family shapes today since Amazon paid me for my book sales from last month. Can play with shapes even more then.

This is very good. I saw George that George was dialed in as he's frequently posted in renders in the forums and gallery but Bethany I had to go to the DAZ Store and it's a good caricature too.

hmmm that's weird have you tried loading G3 and then dialing in the toon?

  • EdsArtEdsArt Posts: 14

Yes, but nothing changes. I'm now reloading Daz3d.

  • carrie58carrie58 Posts: 4,109

well if that doesn't work I'd try re-installing the toon generation2, do you manuelly install or use connect?

  • EdsArtEdsArt Posts: 14

    I usually use DIM.

  • carrie58carrie58 Posts: 4,109

hmmm I think we need somebody smarter then me ,have you had any issues with other characters doing this ??if not I'd say start a thread asking for help I'm pretty sure Richard could help or Mike more then I seem to be

No problems with any other mesh... Thanks for trying Carrie. xx

There does seem to be something flaky going on. I install everything manually. No DIM, no Connect. Nor do I use smart content or any of the DAZ-initiated programs which are supposed to make things easier, but mean having to learn a whole new system. I've got a system that works, I'm satisfied with it.

I rarely use 'Toons, although I've purchased several. So, I load one of the Little One characters. I get a box claiming that there are things missing, with grayscale icons showing the Little Ones, asking me if I want DAZ to install them. They aren't missing. I installed them myself. I installed them properly. I tell it to skip that step, and then the figure loads, no problem.

I load one of the Toom Generation 2 figures. Same thing. "Elements are missing. Shall we install them?" Skip. Figure loads, no problem.

Now, I don't *know* whether this is something specific to recent 3DU characters. But it could be. Or it could be yet another attempt by the program to force people to use DAZ Connect. I later reopened the scene file and got the missing elements alert nagging me about a specific hair -- which wasn't even used in the scene.

No idea why the G3 base would load and not take the morphs when dialed, though.

That has nothing to do explicitly with DAZ Connect because I don't get such warnings and I have only installed the TG2 Mega Bundle with DIM. It could be some of the manual downloads for install are missing some sort of manifest or database entries that DAZ Studio is expecting to find but that is an issure to bring up to D|S support.

Further, it you installed with the DAZ Studio CMS dB wasn't running that could maybe cause problems.
