What kind of business do you have with Daz 3D modeling?

I was wondering what kind of business do some Daz3D users have with using the software and models. I know many are PA's and that is not what I am asking about. I could never make a model because I do not know how to do it even though I have software to do it such as light wave, etc. But I am trying to get an idea of how some of you generate income by other means. I have mastered many modeling renders; have lots of art software such as photoshop, etc. to manipulate the renders where needed. I am looking for a way to generate income from my craft. I would like to supplement my income outside of my full time job and hopefully be able to make some money with Daz3D into my retirement. Any ideas would be helpful. I already publish some children's books using Daz figures, but being a new author and self publishing author, at that, is hard to generate much income.

  • You could always do Patreon. I see a lot of artists doing that. You can also sell prints on DeviantArt (your signature link to it is broken btw). But keep in mind if it's a side job, you'll get side job income from it. As for what other jobs people have, people that sell their models/characters have jobs all over the map. Chef, IT, hair dresser, graphic design, pest control, photography, etc.

Book covers, print out renders and sell them framed (I used to do that), animations, Second Life, cartoons, gaming.

  • Be *very* careful with Second Life though. Their agreement is bonkers.

...some content creators mention not to use their work on Second Life.

  • I've been doing kid's books for a while. I just started my new project making template type comic books with varying covers

  • I'm still exploring what and how to make money with DS.  I got into this to make book covers, though.  That's still the plan.

I honestly don't know a thing about Second Life except that our neighbors behind us got divorced because the husband struck up a relationship with a gal  there.  Some of their vendors steal our work and sell it there.  One of the RDNA vendors found some of our items there.

I fixed the link, thank you!

I've done a few for pay comissioned book covers and a bit of comissioned 3D modelling/illustration work for other sites... Unfortunately commissioned work doesn't come along very often when you're a freelance Graphic Designer like myself, it'd be nice if it was a more reliable source of income but I'm working on it... :)

You could potentially use DS or Poser to create and sell art prints on sites like Deviant Art, or could use it to create custom cell-phone or Ipod case designs for sale on various sites as well... I know a few people that do this...

  • I make comics and sell through my own site as well as do the occasional commission for gamers who want a render of their characters. I do alright at it. I'm also about to make an RPGmaker game that uses Daz renders for character portraits and such.
