No "Merry Christmas" for Poser users?

Not a single item on "Merry Christmas" sale page is Poser compatible. Maybe it's time for DAZ to say that officially, once and for all: that we, Poser users, are no longer welcomed in this store, because it doesn't really support Poser stuff anymore? Just asking, after 12 years of using DAZ purchases in various Poser versions (from P4PP up until P10) and recently feeling kind of left out in the cold I'd like to have some things clarified.

Yup, "beating the dead horse" stuff... Usually I'm one of last ones to take part in such discussions, but it's Christmas Day today, which often leads people to summarise their life/hobby/whatever... Especially when one's on anti-depressant pills for 10+ years, it really can be haunting, it can force to search for answers.

Wow, the lion's share of the freebies Daz has given away for the Christmas Giveaways have been Poser compatible. Have you not been looking??

As to the rest of your statement, yes....Daz has officially distanced itself from Poser and is concentrating on it's own software. New stuff is DS only because the newest versions of Poser cannot support the rigging in the Genesis 3 line. It's a hard fact of life, but things change. It's best that people realize it and move on. I'm sorry you're depressed and that it's probably not good news for you, but it is what it is. I was a Poser user for the better part of 20 years. I learned to use DS because that was really the only route open to me if I wanted to use Daz figures. The software is free, there is no reason you can't use both pieces of software.

    +1

I picked up a ton of stuff that is compatible in both and some specifically for Poser, which I enjoy using. I'd say it's been a Merry Christmas for ALL users!

  • Lots of Daz stuff is also for poser as well

It's worth noting that Daz is doing nothing of the kind.

The vendors who sell through Daz have migrated more and more to Poser only, and Smith Micro has elected not to maintain compatibility with later generation stuff (IE: Genesis 3).

Plus, as folks mentioned, stuff HAS been made available.

But, again, there is no centralized decision making, just the shifting winds of the market.

and it isnt just here at DAZ that is shifting to DAZ Studio ....

  • you just have to get better at adapting stuff sadly, as a Carrara user I buy every clone tool and conversion aid I can,

Poser using DSON at least can load stuff converted to triax and exported as a cr2 companion file in DAZ studio, I have done so quite easily with Genesis 3 stuff Carrara it is not so simple but I know I have to adapt as its what is on the market.

I should correct myself. Daz still sells gobs of Poser stuff, especially since they aquired RDNA. And timmins is right...it's up to the individual PAs what software they want to support and Daz the company doesn't tell them which software it should be. I'm sure it all comes down to what sells better. If it's Daz stuff, naturally, the PAs are going to make stuff for DS.

I agree but it does not mean that ot works in Poser. There are no Poser Companion Files which means that it was probably not tested in Poser. It is possible tthat it works in Poser though it is nott sure.

It is why I also use DS even if I was first a Poser and VUE user.

As a Daz Studio user, I'm starting to feel left out in the cold as more and more stuff is for iray only.  Not bitter, but just feeling like being left behind myself.

On the other hand, instead of just buying and aquiring more and more content, my time is now spent actually using what I bought. LOL.

On the one hand, I empathize. I still use 32 bit computers, but they can't handle Iray efficiently, but everything new is becoming Iray optimized.

On the other hand, I understand this is a marketwide trend that is unlikely to change back "to the old ways".

Having said these, DAZ is not disregarding the Poser users. It's just that there are major factors that have influenced the shift to DS only products (particularly the figures), which involve Smith Micro itself and that company's software unable or unwilling to keep up. Sad, but that's the way things are.

But given that DAZ's primary software is free compared to Poser that costs hundreds of dollars, the ability to use the new products coming out from DAZ basically just boils down to personal preference, really.

It is understandable why smithmicro does no support Genesis 3 officially.

From a business stand point it would be foolish..quite foolish!!
to choose a third party figure that is NOT your IP
that you have no control over its development cycle
you have no QC authority over  the standards that are imposed on independent content and Addon producers

and Make that the central Figure for your "Figure design & animation program.

This has nothing to do with  any childish or bitter grudge  between the companies or spite.

it is not just about the rigging of G3.
SM would have to completely renovate  its content library system to fully support Genesis 3
The flash based system they are using now will have to be scrapped.

And lets face it... the future of Daz content is Iraycool

who will make the PA's start to include
"Superfly"shaders when you cannot convince many to continue supporting 3Delight Materials.

Who would bear the cost of all of this upgrading of poser?

Only to have to likely update again when G4 arrives.angry

Poser users need to learn to be happy with the poser content market ...such as it is.or migrate to another market.

If not,  be prepared for a long Westerose winter.

For what it's worth, I'm getting a lot of 3DL use out of 'Iray only' content. While it might be annoying, there is value there.

But it's more incentive to wait for hefty discounts, since after all you ARE having to do more work.

Which will probably be sometime in the middle of this year, given how the Genesis line progressed (G1 = 2011, G2 = 2013, G3 = 2015).

LMAO it will be like 2023 when G4 comes out seeing how slowly Daz likes to release its software, when pigs fly is when it will happen

For DAZ Studio, that's possible (DAZ Studio 5 is probably another year off at least). But for the main figure Genesis line, they've been pretty consistent in the last 6 years in how each generation is released, which is roughly every 2 years after the previous generation debuted.

Ummm Daz and the PAs gave away FOURTY items this year for Christmas...FOURTY. Between all the Christmas Week Bonus items and the PA Gifts and there where two or three other freebies that I can't remember - I remember one was a leotard and the other two I can't remember now (ahhhhh so many freebies! I can't remember them all! lol). But yeah, I counted at least 40 freebies. MANY of them where Poser compatable as you got to pick from like over 4,000 items for most of the freebies.

It is a DAZ Studio store after all.  We should be happy some PAs still provide Poser version of their products and DAZ still carry OLDER items that are Poser contents. Doesn't it make sense that DAZ would first and foremost sell items that are compatible with their own program?  If PAs' insterest in Poser is dwindling down.....I mean...DAZ can't really do anything about it.I'm just really curious why many think that it is it up to DAZ to keep on selling Poser products.

I'm sorry you're struggling. I hope you are having a good Christmas, reguardless. :) Take care of yourself, ok?

I hope you take some time today to do something fun for yourself and get some "you time" in.

Apparently I wasn't understood too well. Click on the orange bar on top of page, the one saying "Merry Christmas" and see how many new releases are there for Poser. See any? I'd rather have DAZ officially say that Poserites should be happy with store and PAs still selling Poser oldies, but from now on it's all for Studio than pretend that things like sales, new releases or Platinum Club are equally fun for everybody, while they're not. Since Studio is what makes DAZ such a successful company, I don't see a reason to pretend it's not. Just let be honest, that's all I'm asking for, without "but you can jump through some hoops and import stuff into Poser anyway" or "stop whining and learn DS, since it's free". My brain's too wonky for that, besides - just some honesty for Christmas, that's all I really meant and wished for. After more than a week of glorious freebie hunt, which I do appreciate, the final "Merry Christmas" wasn't really merry at all, and that's the reason for my original post.

I understand we all like to vent from time to time
However I personally dont see Daz as "pretending" anything.
they market and sell the products made for their flagship
application: Daz Studio ...that is their business modelcool
yes they do maintain an ever diminshing inventory of poser native content but this is not their main market

To imply that Daz is somehow being
dishonest or deceitful about this fact is not fair at all.no

The only possible "deceit" is that of people who are sadly lying to themselves by continuing to believe things will return to the way they were in  back 2003.

In Dazland, things are made official ONLY when the natives get livid (and sometimes not even then; still no word on Carrara updates). Also, vendors who use Poser report that they see no loss in sales when they do not make a Poser version. I was gonna buy Poser Pro 11 until I bought VWD and LineRender9000, which I got for a combined total of $52.47 thanks to coupons and sales. That's a huge savings over the $149 I would have spent on the lowest price SM recently offered PP11 for. It doesn't look good for Poser expansion.

Markets change...it is a fact of life.

There do not need to be big announcments about the changes, it is just an evolution of the marketplace. Many years ago the daz store followed poser to get sales, but the store grew and poser did not. The market changed. There are really no sales to be made making poser products anymore. The software is dead. The interest is not dwindleing...it is gone. there is no more meat on those old bones. The market moved on.

So we move on to where the market is and what the market wants.

Change is not always easy to accept, but it is a fact of life. If businesses do not follow the changes, then they die off.

No. There was a group of about 4000 items to choose from with different codes and increasing amounts of items you could pick each day.. That promo ended Saturday.

    Hey Villain

Sorry you are feeling down. I hope the dark clouds go away soon.

The sales around here have been a little pathetic as far as Poser/Carrara 8Pro and Earlier. I can't use Genesis, or DUF, so all the cool stuff coming out does me no good.

After fighting the tide, I'm trying to scrape the money together for a new tower.

I also took the opportunity to pick up some Daz 4.9 compatible items with that load of freebies that were offered last week.

As soon as I can, I will load up Daz 4.9 and C8.5Pro and try to learn how to work Genesis 2 and DUF into my workflow.

I'm pretty worried because I already know C7Pro halfway decently and moving back to Daz is a little scary. I don't know how close I can get my images to look like the promos. Not sure it is even possible right out of the box.

    Best of Luck!
