DAZ and Third Party Content issues
So something very frustrating has been happening with some of the thrid party content I have. I unzip it and install all the files into the proper folders (generally runtime/libraries and textures etc., as most is poser style content) and then on some items (though not all thankfully!) DAZ dos not seem to be able to locate the proper textures/materials, desitre the fact they exist and are in the proper place. Sometimes this means an error message saying unable to locate files when first loading the item into the scene (if this is the case often I can go and manually locate the file, though it is annoying to have to do so) other times loading the original item is fine, but alternative material sets do nothing when I click them to apply to the item (and yes I did have the correct item selected). For a simple example of what is happening, I have a free morphable blanket by 3dc. When I load the blanket, I get this message: Cannot find a file for "/Downloads/runtime/textures/3dc/other/blanket_tex4.jpg". I can go into the files and find it (Go into My Library/runtime/textures/3dc/other/etc.) and this will aplly that specific texture. I think for this the problem is that for some reason DAZ thinks that there should be a "downloads" file in front of my runtime file? However, when I go into the "materials" section of my content and click on of the alternative presets that came with the blanket, it acts as though it loads (no error messages or anything), but nothing happens. This has occured with other items as well, not all of them by the same author. My best guess is that DAZ is looking in the wrong places for things (or I'm filing stuff worng :P), but I don't know how to fix it... and in some cases, when I'm not given an error message, I don't even know where it is that it is looking. I know how to tell DAZ generally where to look for content (in the edit tab under preferences and content directory manager and all of that) but not how to fix where it looks for stuff on a particular item. :P Am I just clueless? Help me out please! :)

The problem is that the third party content is looking in a main folder named "Downloads", while your main folder is "My Library".
As you wrote:
Downloads/runtime/textures/3dc/other/blanket_tex4.jpg
My Library/runtime/textures/3dc/other/etc
There are two options: move the textures into a folder that has the downloads name, and add that folder to your Content Directory Manager (both, DAZ and Studio format!), or contact the freebie creator and ask him to fix the internal link so that it will work properly.
Edit: A quickfix is to use the manual search option when the error message pops up, and then re-save the item as a prop using the new settings.
If the product had been saved correctly the proper relative address would have started at "Runtime".
Ok thanks, that'll help for the ones that give me error messages, I think. What about the props where the alternate textures don't do anything?
You can manually load the maps manually, if everything fails.
