I am looking for an online company that will print my artwork on tshirts but will not cost a lot but also can let me just buy one tshirt if needed.

"...but will not cost a lot" is relative, lol. Cafepress is the biggest name in the print-as-you-sell game. There are lots of others. Mostly they aren't cheap and they aren't of stellar quality. Honestly, I've gotten better results with iron-on inkjet appliques, lol.
Just search on Google and Bing and go with who is running the best deal now. I've looked into it and unless you are going to order massive numbers of t-shirts essentially you will be paying the price of a brand name blouse or shirt for your custom t-shirt.
I have used zazzle - nbo idea abut how they stack up against other such sites for price. The quality, both of the t-shirt and the print were very good.
Definitely check your local Tshirt companies if you're in an area that has a few. I've gotten deals in the past for around $4 per shirt (shirt included) on a standard Tshirt. The downside is that they usually want you to print a dozen. But, consider how many you'll need first, then check the prices. Because a local guy might be cheaper once you factor in shipping cost.
VISTAPRINT. Mine didn't fade like CafePress, but it has been a few years so maybe they improved their inks.
had a brick and mortar paint your own pottery studio/ store. People loved the shirts- but I bought several and washed and washed them to be sure they didn't fade quickly- but I did use cold water not hot. Vista Print is also excellent for business cards and anything printable. Type in Vista Print discount codes and you'll probably get a few.
