Prop Hierarchy-Stuff Questions

Okay, I've read through the forums and haven't found a clear answer, if someone knows of a thread, please post me a link. I have modeled a Klingon Bat'leth. It imports as a group consisting of five pieces (blade, edge, handle01, handle02, handle 03). I try to save it as a prop asset and it only saves the top piece. I am aware that I can save it as a scene subset and that's great for personal use. My goal, however, is to make the thing available for download on sharecg. Is there something I can convert it to or something in the hierarchy I can change to get the whole thing to save as a prop, without spoiling my uvs/surfaces? Thanks for any help in advance :) (Bonus points for universal smart prop info, lol)

What did you model it in?
Is there a reason it is 5 different pieces rather than a single prop? If so then I am fairly sure that this is what you need to do.
First, have all the parts in the scene and the parented props already parented in place. With all the parts in the scene and properly parented to the body you need to save each as an individual asset. File/save as/support asset and then save it as a figure/prop asset. Be sure that you take note of the "form" you have to fill out because you will need the product name the same on all the parts so that they are in the same data folder. You need to include that data folder as part of the file set when you share the bat'leth. Also be sure to check the box about parenting near the bottom. I forget exactly what it is called. Load the body first then each of the new assets and they will be parented in place. Then you can save it as a scene subset if you want them the prop to load into the scene with the parts on.
@mjc1016 Sketchup (and thanks for the geometry shell advice, you were spot on, apparently the magic number for enameled christmas balls is .005 instead of .001)
Okay, Khory, I think I get it now.. the "props" actually behave more like prop assets and the subset is the actual "prop".. will have a go at it. The reason for 5 parts is partially based on ignorance. I want different zones (surfaces) for the handles (leather), the main blade (brushed steel) and the blade edge (polished metal).. but every format I exported the model to, refused to cooperate and I kept getting 1 surface, if I got anything at all (sometimes it was just interdimensional geometry!). After trying EVERY format, I think it was FBX that finally worked. Bear in mind I AM the world's biggest noob at 3D modeling.
Oh ok.. I am guessing that yes your export or import method perhaps didn't have save materials or something checked. Even so, you could actually fix that in studio. How hard it would be is a different matter. You can open the tool settings tab and then use the geometry editor to add, change, rename, and so on the surfaces. Oh and that funky missing geometry thing? Apply a shader preset to it and you should have it turn up. Not exactly sure what is up with that but it happens to a friend of mine.
