Thank You, DAZ

I got Poser version 1, at Egghead Software in Florida, in 1996. I was so excited when the price went down. I was totally confused by Poser. In 1999, I had gotten on the Internet, and did a search for Poser resources. I discovered all sorts of wonderful communities, and Poser version 4. DAZ3D provided such great content, and a forum to hang out with fellow artists. DAZ is the site that contributed the most to my artistic journey. Their products and forums are the best, in my regard.

My journey to creativity has been an interesting one, with challenges, external and internal. At times, I've given up, only to rediscover my creative energies once again. In all those years, DAZ has been the shining light. Now here I am, a Senior Citizen, somewhat overwhelmed, and still willing to learn.

Thank you DAZ, and thank you, everyone in the forums, for allowing me a place to express myself, and to learn.

Dawwww That's sweet! :D I'm glad you have a place to express yourself! :)

I too am happy that I discovered Daz. It's becoming not just a valuable tool but the people I've met on the forum (with the exception of maybe one or two people) have been really great! I'm glad I have discovered this art form and this forum. It's become a fun daily part of my life. So I'll lend my voice to the "Thank you" and will also say: Thank you, Daz! This place, while not perfect, is pretty great and I'm happy to be a member of the Daz community! :)

Divamakeup, thanks for sharing your experience. The progression for me was very direct, and definite. DAZ has always been the chief source of "Poser Content." DAZ Studio was released as an alternative to Poser. DAZ Studio has been free for several years. The "Pro" version of Poser is very expensive. DAZ Studio offers the Genesis generations of characters. Poser offers nothing similar. There were never any good forums or stores from the owners of various versions of Poser.

    DAZ wins.

Yeah, I agree. Daz definitely wins. I tried Poser quite a few years ago when it was free and could never get into it. Because of that experience, I thought that 3D art wasn't for me. However after giving Daz Studio a try and finding I liked it - I really am having a lot of fun with 3D art. I'm really happy Daz Studio is free and it's been a very smart move on their part, as I've spent quite a bit of money here that I wouldn't have if they actually charged people for Daz Studio.

I never would have bought Daz Studio or tried it if it hadn't been for it being free. NOW they have a lot of my money and gain more of my money every month as they keep releasing great content. lol I never would have gotten into it though if Daz Studio wasn't free (and I'm sure I'm not the only one) - so BRILLIANT move on their part.

This site and it's community are great and I'm excited to see what is in store for us for the future! :)

Daz discovered the secret: Entry should be a free gift, like Grace. The struggle and the price you pay comes after. But if you get what you desire, then it's worth it.

Hey Ron ... Poser has never had a very good company handling it, at leasat after Fractal and Metacreations. . there was a brief time when Metacreations and at the beginning with Curios Labs that the interaction with the user community was very good. But thisinteraction did not take place on the company site. AOL had a very good forum, and then it was Poser Forum Online which gave us Rendo. Early on the other nameless places were a lot different as well ... This forum here has changed a lot from early on too. .it is a lot quieter and has a much different vibe than the beginning. Perhaps it was all the newness ... as we all were growing with the programs, and especially the products that DAZ was giving us ... and a lot of the early stuff was free or very low cost.

I still have all that old V1 and M1 stuff :)

  • Yeah - I started with Daz around D|S 1.4 (we used to write DS as D|S) - the free entry and supportive community really got me hooked.

I took a break from the forums for a while and missed the whole Genesis/Genesis 2 era - got back into it recently and am happily rendering again :)

I started in 3D with trueSpace 6 back in 2004. When I realized modeling and texturing was much more tricky than anticipated, I found Poser 5. I was hooked for awhile but the workflow was awkward and the cartoonish renders never really appealed to me. Then I found Daz, but still wasn't very impressed with the so-so 3delight renders. I was in limbo for years. But along came iRay and it rocked my world. I finally found the renders I've been looking for!  I've only been rendering in Daz for about a year, but the excellent models, utilities and sales have me hooked. I don't see any turning back now. :)
