Sale Discounts- How are they supposed to work?

For the sale, if item A is marked down 40%, and it is in a section that says get 60% off if you buy a new release, does the 60% replace that 40%, or is it 40% off then 60% off that?
My cart jumped in price AGAIN since this morning. I can't possibly write this all up in a ticket, things come from different sections but I did do a mini chart, trying to keep this straight.
And my Holiday discount isn't applying at all.

60% replaces 40%.
Have you tried logging in and out? That usually helps, i.e. if the holiday discount doesn't apply... to me, it looks like you were logged out of the sales part of the page, and only stayed in the forum part.
Hmm, because with other people's screenshots, they're getting the former. But that's probably glitching. I'll try the logging out (again, did it a few hours ago) and see if that helps this time. Thanks for the reminder, I'd forgotten to try it again.
Yea, mine jumped up too again during the day, from 43 to 51. Here's the current prices with 30% Holiday Discount:
I never know, day before yesterday the Hapsburg & Hapsburg Nighttime iRay products were both on sale for about $6 each but I waited and the sale price went quickly away; today one of them was about $6 and the others was about $10 so I'm like I ain't waiting again this time.
Each time I make a purchase though I am autologged out of the forums when I come back & then autologged back in.
Yeah, it's inconsistent. Some are off the discounted price, and others are only discounting what it says it will do- aka, the 60% (with a new release) so only 60% is applied. But I have things in my cart that are discounted off the discounted price. So I'm keeping one new thing in my cart, taking out the other new things, and only checking out with the discounted discounted. Sheesh.
Nope, that isn't right either. When I do a 50% off the full price, then apply my Holiday (I'm a 30% too) then I'm still getting about a dollar and a half cheaper. Not complaining, but these prices aren't right, no matter which way you go with it. Yet other things from that store are calculating another way.
Example A: 24.95 full price. 50% off if buy new thing. I am. So, it's already at 40% off at 14.97, ignore that for now. Let's take 50% off the ORIGINAL PRICE.
24.95 x .50 is 12.47, Now I pay 70% of that as I get 30% off- so x .70 of 12.47 is 8.72. What do I have? A lower price. 7.28. Now how did they get that?
If you do the 14.97 (already discounted price) then 50% that's 7.48 (close to the 7.28, but not a match) then my 30% off leaves it at 5.23. Not a match.
So I have odd prices all over the place.
Example B: 18.95 full price. It's already 11.37 (40%) Let's do full price. Again, I have a new Monique item in cart, I get 50% off.
18.95 x .50 is 9.47 x .7 (I get 30% off) is 6.62 I have 6.64 so that's how it is doing it- it took the 50% off the original price. And applied the Holiday discount. So why is this one right and the first one isn't?
But whoa, here we go-
Example C: a 17.95 full price, it's marked to 58% off at 7.54- but THAT DOESN'T MATTER- it is supposedly only doing the full price, as per the one above this.
17.95 x 50% off would be paying MORE than the 58% deal already offered, so they apparently take it off the discounted price.
7.54 x .50 is 3.77 and it's 3.67 in the cart- but my Holiday discount didn't apply. That would be 2.63. Give me a break and get some consistency here!!!!!
For any that have the greater discount (if the deal is get 50% off, and it's already discounted greated than that, say 58%) CHECK TO SEE IF YOUR HOLIDAY DISCOUNT IS APPLYING! You may have checked a few (that had lesser original discounts) and thought it was applying, but with the great discounts, it might not be! I've tested/rotated about twenty items in and out of the cart and it is consistently NOT APPLYING the Holiday discounts on the greater-discounted items. I'm not spending any more time on it, this is really up to DAZ to get their store right.
I'm choosing not to shop today. Its too stressful.
For the items in the flagship category (new daily launch) the price calculations seem to be as advertised more or less. Any deviations in that are getting properly addressed eventually. It is only in the secondary categories (non-new) where the inconsistencies are observed the most. I understand, as a thumb rule, that unless otherwise explicitly mentioned, all discounts are supposed to stack cumulatively. Higher discounts replace lower discounts ONLY when explicitly mentioned.
But lately, I am seeing more more exceptions to this rule for items which go on sale in the secondary categories. It may probably be due to human error or too much complexity for the systems to handle efficiently or may even be a secret sale. I just buy based on whatever works out for my need, conscience and wallet (not necessarily in that order).
I gave up depending on Daz sale prices to get a good deal.. especially the last week or 2 have been the worst. I have spent a hour or more loading things into my cart only to have the prices change before i check out. GRRR .. yea I turned the air blue in my office, then I removed all the items still cursing and went shopping on Amazon instead ..Really I gave up shopping daz. there is no consistences to a daz sales if ita flash sale then mark it as so. Other wise what the point spending hours looking through stuff to only be disappointed. . so if something is on sale in my wish list at a good price I'll buy it other wise. forget it I'm done wasting my time shopping through the sales to only have my cart change in prices at the last minute. Screw that
@ivy @icedragonart Totally understand. My problem is, can't use the wishlist except to spot the "already high discounted" ones that tell me the additional discount will stack. The 40% ones don't do squat, it has to be 58% to trigger the stacking.
So here's a screenshot of one of my tests, have a blast. Who knows if this is right or wrong at this point. If wrong, it's late in the day and people should have found them by now. They're between $3.60 and $4.60 on average with a new item in the cart. (Edit- depends on your discount, BUT my discount wasn't applying on most of them, plus the discounts weren't calculating right regardless of whether they were or weren't. What a mess.)
I am just the opposite, since I have a hard time trying tio figure out "DAZ math" I just place items I am interested in, in the cart and see what shows up, kinda fun that way and I have gotten some amazing deals along the way also, LOL.
I have about $40 worth of deals sitting in my cart right now and trying to decide if I should complete it since I also just found some great deals at Rendo, including Dinoraul products for 45% off and they rarely go on sale, decisions, decisions.
Yeah, I only bother if the sale is pretty straightforward, like 'get X, get one of LIST for free.'
LOL timmins.william- even that can get messed up, right?
One thing I have to remember when shopping the characters- I need to think about the facial structure (morphs) and not just the skin materials, because if I like the look of the face, I can put someone else's materials on there. So I am picking up some of those $4 ish ones to swap around.
These kind of issues typically happen when the admins try to manually "override" and "compensate" for some of the prices when the system does not apply them they way they are intended. Several times those changes become persistent and in turn result in compounding errors when the same items are moved across categories or across diferent sales offers.
However, this is just a presumption and the only logical explanation that I can offer based on the observed inconsistencies.
My above theory can at least explain 2 scenarios:
Scenario A - Some discounts getting applied twice: Often we see items which are part of an expired offer to retain their old discounts and the current offers are applying the new discounts (read compunding) on top of that. This may trigger those "feeling lucky" moments for customers and force the Daz admins to spring into action to contain their losses. Since it may not be that easy to identify which of the the expired offers are causing the residual discounts, they might be forced to manually override or compensate the discounts to implement an immediate fix to contain their losses. This brings us to Scenario B.
Scenario B - Some discounts not getting applied at all: The short term counter-discounts manually set for those items may prevail beyond the life of the current offer. Paradoxically, what was once a fix then itself become the cause of error when the same item is offered in a new sales offer under fresh set of discounts.
Disclaimer: This is just a theory that explains certain behavior and need not necessarily be true.
Novica, Were any of the items you were getting significant differences on Daz Originals, and if so, are you PC+?
That can seriously alter what shows up. If it isn't, they may have been 'fixing' pricing/discount issues while you were looking at the items, and that can cause prices to get really wonky for a few minutes.
No on the DOs, it was multiple vendors, and some were single vendor. The three DO's that I tried applied the right discount. (I tested a couple Monique, and one that wasn't.) Yes, I'm PC+. Nice theory though!
Also, it was really late in the evening when these prices were in play, and eight of them had been that way since about 1am (Central time) in the morning. So seventeen hours or more, approximately.
It is very confusing. I wanted the Christmas dining room. I put various things in the cart and watched the price rise and fall. Finally put Monique base in there with my pc coupon and got it for free and Monique base for 12 dollars.
