Looking for Transparent plastic shaders for iray?

Is there any set that includes transparent plastic shaders. I've seen regular solid plastic and glass but looking to make some transparent tubing... That isn't shiny like glass.

Use the slid glass, if the tubing is modeled with 'thickness' and change the Refraction Index to between 1.46 and 1.50 and cut back a bit on the reflection.

  • I'd have to double check, but I think one of Mec4D's shader sets came with somewhat transparent looking rubber and latex shaders that look plastic in her Vol. 2 set.  I can look and do a quick render in a bit when my current render is done if you don't have it.  What type of object are you trying to put it on?  If I have something similar, I can use that for a render so you can see what it looks like.

I've used the gummi bear shaders from that MECH4D set and they look plastic but what mjc1016 said works too

I have some transparent colored PVC latex shaders up on ShareCG. If you remove the color ya should be good to go :). They do look like plastic and not glass.

Thanks! I'm looking for shaders to use on tubes that conduct fluid and air  And tubes with ribbing.  So I want them to look plastic and rubbery, for iray. renders

  • Okay, so I don't have a lot of tubing in my library, apparently.  The best I could do was either the Steampunk Vents or the Tree of Life.  I kind of liked the idea of updating that Tree so I went with that.  It's kind of cool looking.  I might have to play with it some more.  I didn't swap out everything.  I left a few metal parts in there, but most of this is done with different colors of the Plastic (and it is a plastic shader) shaders in Mec4D's Vol. 2 Shaders.  They are semi-transparent and they look pretty good.  You can see right through them.  I didn't play with any settings these are just how they come with the set.  It would have taken a lot longer on my system to render this out fully.  This took about 20 minutes in CPU only on my system.

I would have linked it, but the store is messed up again.

Neato! Thanks! I will check out that set. I like your man in the tree of life. That is a cool look.

  • Yeah, I'm definitely going to have to play with that some more.  I'd like to see what I can do with that.  :)

Here's mine....a clear version of the PVC latex shaders I made (on ShareCG - link in my sig). It's not a full cook, but you get the idea I hope ;). If you like it I'll upload the recipe tomorrow. Naturally, it's going to look its best on a mesh with thickness like the tubes in the attached pic....

Well, here it is anyway...maybe someone can use it. There are no settings to change past the end of the second row of uber shader. This is the soft, somewhat rubbery kind of clear tubing, like maybe you'd get with a fishtank or something ;)

  • Serene Night, Are you looking at medical type tubing? I.E. Infusion lines, syringes?

That would be nice and similar to what I want. In sci-fi you can never have enough of tubes hoses and wires. Attach to various parts.

That tubing is great. I find 'custom curve' stuff to be like space magic at this point...

This is a better one. I wasn't happy with the blurred edges ;). Had to upload it since there was an extra step required that couldn't be shown on a picture of the uber shader sliders.

Oh, forgot about the second one.  I have those, too!  I'll have to take them out and play.

Was great for the tubing and shiny latex pvc because both are shiny but not necessarily reflective. You can control that with custom curves, but not with weighted top coat, which is what I see most people using for shiny latex. It's too reflective for that and no way to tone down the reflections. That's where the custom curve comes in ;).

What is this thing called "Custom Cureve"?

I'm not sure, but it sounds fancy and expensive.

Oh, and thank you Mattymanx. Something to use my PC coupon on this month.

It's one of the specular settings on the Top Coat on the Iray Uber shader. Ya have Reflective, Fresnel, Weighted and Custom Curve.

Custom curve seems to be the core of whatever magic powers makes Anagenessis look so good. No idea why or how.

    But it DOES
