Christmas PA Gifts

Well, then I'm sorry to all the PA's I end up passing on their wonderful, generous gifts because I don't have the finances to actually support them all, and I have to save my money for those days when the Freebie is something I want/can use, rather than impulse buying things that are on sale *because* of the freebie, even if the freebie is something I wouldn't normally get.

For example, if the current Freebie were just free (and I had the money available, which I will come Sunday) I'd be inclined to get the MeriMay dress since I picked up the textures last year.  This year, I'm probably going to end up giving Aave Nainen's sale a complete pass, since there's nothing I actively need from their store, and I'll apparently need to save my money in case a vendor with something I need more (like Sarsa or Ravenhair) has a freebie offer.

Now, to be clear, I understand why the change was made.  I accept that the change was made.  I am not demanding that Daz and the PA's go back to the old way of doing things.  I am always greatful for any gifts from the PA's, even in "Free with Purchase" situations. I am simply expressing how this change will impact me and my purchases this month.

Of course, since I'm only one voice, for the most part what I have to say doesn't matter to anyone, because one sale more or less won't make much of an impact on the bottom line.  But I still felt it neccisary to explain my views on the subject.

Your voice is absolutely important to me!

Gifts are a way to say thank you.

BOGOF are a marketing instrument to generate additional sales.

Good luck on that new strategy.

If you want to say thank you to your customers, why not give away gifts for those who supported the PA in the last year with making some purchase in 2016. I guess your store algorithm should be able to do that. If someone didn't buy, he could still do so and throw something in the cart with the free item then ..

Hey, folks, I won't be doing a freebie in the Daz3d store this year (busy year, screwed up the timing), but I hope to do one elsewhere!  Right now I'm thinking a small morph set.

That's straddles the line of entitlement, though. Especially since there are times throughout the year where special discount/freebie offers come up even without a holiday attached or if you're part of the Platinum Club, solely for buying certain items, from certain vendors, and under particular conditions. Not trying to be a shill -Lord knows I've aired my many, many grievances about the Daz store in the past-, but that's a fact.

If you want freebies at Christmastime that badly, there's other places online that are currently doing the Advent Calendar thing, most of which are linked to in the Freebie forum. Your only other option is to badger the PAs into submitting more freebies, but that just makes one look extremely rude (not to mention greedy) and probably a surefire way to guarantee we'll never have an Advent calendar/Christmas freebies in the future.

You misunderstood. Suggestion was simply change store algorithm for freebie from 'with a purchase from PA now' to 'with a purchase from PA now or in 2016'.

    Whatever.

Some of us freebie creators (not PAs here) still give away nice stuff every day of the year ;). Wilmap (I mean, what's not to like?), Ghastly, mjc26250 among others. I have some stuff coming up (working on it as we speak), and while what we make might not be Christmas related, it's all still nice stuff. We'll all get goodies, even if Daz doesn't have a giveaway ;).

Hi everyone!  Some of the PAs are trying to get co-ordinated to release some freebies in the Commons forum during December.  We don't know how many just yet but there seems to be interest and it's a way to say 'thank you' to our customers.   May take a week before you see anything but it will happen.  Hey, the suspense is part of the fun :)

Just to respond to some of the questions here (as well as to explain the reasoning behind it), I wanted to chime in.

For the past several years we have given away free items for the holidays.  The number of items submitted however, declines each year, and we really struggle to come up with enough items to make it viable.  Add to that the fact that, as free items, we indicated on them that since they were free, we did not fully test them and did not offer support for them.  In spite of making this clear, many customers who got them for free and then contacted support for help with them, got really upset that we did not support them.

So, what was intended as good will actually made a lot of people angry with us.  Add to that the fact that we simply don't get very many of these items submitted, and it becomes very difficult to manage.

So, while I know many may have enjoyed the free items in the past, we wanted to make sure that:

    - We had enough items

    - The items were of a quality that we are proud to have in the store

    - The items are of a quality that people appreciate, and don't end up upset about

That is exactly why last year we began to offer other exciting deals during the holidays (very, very big name new items for 75% off.)  You'll be seeing some of that this year as well.  You will also be seeing a fair number of "free if you buy" new items this year that are a step above the types of freebies you have seen in the past.  Plus, we've got a few other Holiday Miracles up our sleeves ;)

I understand, especially if you don't have enough PAs who have the time and/or desire to contribute this year. Time is money after all. Would you guys please re-release last year's freebies then? A lot of us missed it or weren't here that would love to have them. :)

Awww Sweeeeet! That would be wonderful! :D Thank you! I was looking forward to that being a thing. This is my first Daz Christmas and was hoping to experience the wonderful types of Christmases that others have enjoyed in past here at Daz. Being a "starving artist" I really enjoy freebies, as I often can't afford to purchase - but I understand the PAs who don't have the time to contribute. That's totally understandable. I'm excited to hear there is still a bit of interest in this though! That makes me giddy!! :D

Discount on PC Annual membership? (I'm thinking of renewing soon and that could be my Christmas pressie to myself ;) )

Or an unflatable pony morph for Daz Horse 2 ... that'd work too.

Ohhh That would be awesome, Lyoness! :D I heard about your Peppermint Cheer makeup and I would love to get that! That would make for really fun Holiday renders! :) I'm sure others who missed out on that would be excited to have it too!

Naturally, and Iray as well, and since it can use Poser content it must have SuperFly! And don't forget the magic realtime emulation of NVidia GPUs for people who can't afford the 1080 cards (well, I can always wish)

It's nice when people give us gifts, we've had some really nice ones from the PAs here. It's sad that some people complained because they didn't like the gifts but I suppose some people always will.

If we do get any this year it will be a nice surprise. How about a winter muffler for the V8?

People complain about everything, including freebies. Otherwise they wouldn't be people :P. I would never do it, but...well, takes all kinds :D I think sometimes it's a language barrier that makes people SEEM like they're being rude when they are just trying to communicate something in a language that isn't theirs. Yanno what I mean?

The problem is daz_Steve is that "free if you buy" is not free. you have to have a monetary payout to get it, even if it states you are buying something else as a qualifier still doesn't make it free. That is like saying "Hey here is a Customer appreciation gift, but you need to buy something in the store to get it. I appreciate the work the PA's do and I thank all those that do give out truly free freebies, but I think I will pass on the corperate idea of freebie.

    Merry Christmas all.

Yeah, I agree. I've seen language barriers quite often make it look like someone is being rude, when I don't think they are meaning to be. And then, of course, there are the intentionally rude people that will complain no matter what. It's sad those people try to ruin it for the rest of us.

Yeah, BOGO isn't really freebie. But I'm happy to hear that some of the PAs will either be doing a real freebie or will be re-releasing last year's freebie. Which is really nice of them! :D

I'm not a PA but I'm working on a couple of freebies as well. :)

That is why I made sure to seperate the PA's work from the store's. The PA's here are amazing and to offer free items that takes up valuable time that could be putting food on their table or gas in their car is amazing.

It could. In the case of Amaranth's post just above yours I think it means day 2 on their Advent / Christmas Calander.
