tl;dr
Dazember is a month long render jam focused on creative prompts. The prompt time frames are broken into three categories: every other day, weekly, and a single one for the month. Submit as many renders as you like for each prompt. The jam starts December 1st.

The details!
I have a lot of creative friends, so all sorts of cool artistic challenges fly across my feed every year. Some examples: Inktober (http://mrjakeparker.com/inktober), NaNoWriMo (http://nanowrimo.org/), Song-a-Week (https://www.reddit.com/r/songaweek/). In the game development community these are often called “game jams,” where devs come together to create small games in a short time. I love these sorts of things and since discovering Daz I thought it would be neat to run a similar challenge here on the forums.
All prompt threads will be posted in the Art Studio sub forum. [EDIT: the prompts are up!!]
Bi-daily:
Every other day I’ll throw out a prompt on a separate thread. (Not a thread every two days, one for all bi-daily themes.) Post your images in the thread or on your gallery. These are quick, focused images, since you only have two days. Tag gallery images with dazember16daily Gallery link: hope these work! http://www.daz3d.com/gallery/images/?tags=dazember16daily
Weekly:
Weekly prompts involve a more complex theme, so you can design a more complex render. Weekly prompts will have their own thread. Tag: dazember16weekly http://www.daz3d.com/gallery/images/?tags=dazember16weekly
Monthly:
I’m sort of on the fence about this but I had a nice prompt and thought giving people a chance to do one mega-render would be nice. This would be a single prompt for the whole of December, again with it’s own thread. Tag: dazember16finale http://www.daz3d.com/gallery/images/?tags=dazember16finale
There is no due date or cut off for anything, but please only post images in the thread based on the current prompt. If you want to post prompt renders to your gallery, regardless of time, feel free. But I want people browsing the thread to see a chronological timeline of prompts as the event goes on.
What this challenge IS:
-
Low-key, fun
-
Based around prompts (how many times can I say prompt in this post?)
-
Involving art that is rendered (regardless of which 3D software)
-
A way to inspire you to design new renders, not post previously completed ones
What this challenge is NOT:
-
A contest-there are so many great sponsored contests already
-
All or nothing participating-December is a busy time. Maybe you only get one render, maybe you get 31!
-
A critique based event-if you want critique from others, just ask for it when you post your image. If you don’t feel like critiquing other people’s work, then don’t. The focus of the jam isn’t feedback, but it can be for you, personally, if you want. You do you!
-
Only holiday themed. The prompts will be a variety of things though the longer prompts are more winter/seasonally themed than the bi-dailies.
I’m a new Daz users and a very new forum user, and I’ve never run a forum event. Hopefully I don’t mess it all up! >.> look for the first set of prompts on the 1st in the Art Studio sub forum!
--Huge thanks to @dreamfarmer @Richard Haseltine, @Jack Tomalin, and Britney Creek (from CS) for helping me plan this :3

>.> I am looking forward to this because sometimes the competitions can be wearing, because the point is comparing yourself to others and that doesn't always produce the best feelings.
Sounds like a lot of fun! I'm in!
This could be a lot of fun. I'd rather do renders in that spirit than something competitive. This way everyone wins!
This was exactly my thought too. I did a few contests before deciding I was just too shy for the stress to be worth the learning opportunities. And so, Dazember was born!
We'll have to feel out how good my prompts are together :P I tried to get a whole range of generic all the way to weirdly spesific...
Sounds interesting!
Btw sorry for posting this on such short notice. I wanted to get permission from Daz/the mods and I didn't think to ask them until like... two days ago. Whoops
Meanwhile, in order to make the gallary tag links look like they are working, I've whipped up a kickoff image and added all three tags (normally the prompts won't overlap but this means I only make one image instead of three on short notice). I'll add the gallary links to the main post in a few minutes.
Pppfffttt! that is like my sons little league where there are no winners and everyone gets a trophy, LOL
neat idea Lain105, look forward to the entries!
...interesting idea.
The best stuff I feel I've done was for the RRRR challenges.
Probably put up a link to the respective threads in the art forum, so that more people will find the way there
Sounds kind of cool. I've never done anything like this.
Ok peeps!
I made the three threads in art studio. Because I am a bad event organizer I didn't have a bi-daily image ready to post right away XD
Shame they have to be new ones, as I have o very seasonal one already in my gallery, which fits right in with your prompt.
You're right, it would be fun to see previous years of seasonal art. I want to keep the art studio threads on current, new pics, sooo.... go ahead and post previous year's art in this thread! I love seeing other people's stuff :3
Well here you go
This song
and here's the image :- Leaning on a Lamp Post
That's so great! Thanks for sharing :) I love the cat stalking the birds, great little detail
If you ever wondered what would come of the (accidental) prompt 'fairies and coffee', you can now find out by checking out the Dazember Daily Thread.
(Also, a reminder that this Render Event exists now that Dazember has started in earnest. Worried about comparing yourself to others? Trying to stop fussing endlessly over the smallest render? Come join us for some quick render fun!)
